NFL Wins Sweepstakes Throughout City The primary purpose of the National Forensic League is to develop skills through participation in the various speech tournaments held each year, including such fields as debate, oratory, extemporaneous speaking, analysis of public ad- dress, impromptu speaking, and mock Congress. Having won numerous honors in many local and state-wide contests, including the winning of sweepstakes at Bellaire, Austin, and Sam Houston, the ultimate goal of the club this year was to send as many members as possible to the Na- tional Speech Tournament to be held in Omaha, Nebraska, during the summer. 198 f Drama Club Presents “Teahouse”’ Members of the Drama Club highlighted the year by presenting “Teahouse of the August Moon” in November, climaxing months of hard work. Indi- vidual members took part in speech tournaments throughout the city and state, entering in improvised ‘acting, dramatic, humorous and prose interpretation, and prose and lyric poetry. Outstanding teams brought home many awards in duet and improvised acting and one-act plays. This honorary organization had another winning year, making Memorial one of the best drama contenders at all tournaments.
