Seniors uWe are the product of yesterday, the promise of today, and the hope of a better tomorrowfl The Class ol' 1974 were infants during the passive fifties, children throughout the turbulent sixties, and are now young adults of the chal- lenging seventies. Seniors are todayis leaders of Memorial and tomorrowis leaders of the world. The maturity, responsibility and experience they have acquired in their four years at Memorial will no doubt aid them in facing the challenge of creating a better and brighter tomorrow. Perhaps it is only school spirit tradition for a senior to boast of the greatness and uniqueness ol' the ,senior class, especially during his class's graduating year. Such intense personal feeling, although sometimes redundant, is priceless. For it is this class-shared emotion, senior pride, that implants the seedlings of pride in Memorial High School in the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. Such pride and overwhelming enthusiasm was well founded in the student spirit of the Class of 74. It is this sell'-pride and zest for life that will carry this class toward a brighter tomorrow. Richard and Pat observe the traditional senior ring-turning. Aceustomed to the daily routine of high school life, the juniors are confident in their endeavors. The class of 575 faced the challenges in their new role first with nervous apprehension and, then realizing their abilities, worked smoothly in accomplish- ing their goals. The junior year is one in which the student matures. The individual is now aware as to the cuases and reasons of things. lt is a year of establishing goals in life and finding direction. Above all it is the time for the promising junior class to utilize its expanded perceptions in pre- paring optimistically for being the leaders of '75. It is this core of strength in the upper classes that provides the school with an intensified school spirit. A traditional demon- stration of this is the planning and coordination of the Junior-Senior prom, undertaken annually by the juniors. While the planning is an arduous task in its own right, the most impressive effort diss played is the fund raising that is accomplished by the rank and file members of the class. 99 juniors K, Mike Sanchez Ricardo Sanchez Pilar Sandoval Rachel Sandoval Juan S311 Miguel George Santillan juan Sauccdo Lina Segura Hector Sepulveda gum 11F he ,SX ,X A , V , Manuel Sifuentes rw :iff Lucy Solis Cecilia Talavera John T6r1iCI1lC Leticia Thorns Lorinff Thomas xxxitggg xxkfxxx: xxxnraexx 1 00 juniors xxxxrwiff 'NY N Orinc Thomas Hector Tovar Evelyn Trevino Jimmy Trevino Regina Trevino .A V 7' T -.J Lupe Trujillo 'Z' Cassandra Tyson , ,N ,,.,. .,,. -f -f HQ Frances Valdez Janie Valdez Sylvia Valladares - rlvg. -J Javier Valle Raymond Vargas Gloria Vasquez joe Vega TCFCSH Vega to 'Bb fr 1 or ,se Ruth Villasana Robert Wallace Donnie White Joyce Wilkerson Oglatha Williams ff fb Sonja Williamson 41 Luis Yanez Sylvia Yfuarte Kathy Zamora Marc Zapata 1 01 Juniors .llLl11 ,ni Sylvia Zepeda JCTTY ZCFTUCIIC Mike Zlmigil Ora Lee Zuniga 1 O 2 Juniors Don't you tell me it takes three hours to go to the restroom!', Sophomores 5 z Arthur Reyna Mrs. Gloria Garcia Vincent Guerrero Sgt.-at-Arms Sponsor President Betty Rodriguez Pat Resendez Priscilla Garcia Secretary Treasurer Vice-President 10 104 Sophomores Lisa Adame Maria D. As a second year student, a sophomore faces and conquers frustration in acting as a responsible indivi- dual growing away from immaturity. Spirit and pride are also newly acquired symbols of the sophomore, particularly, pride in no longer being freshmen. In studying the fine leadership of the upperclass- men, sophomores tend to become selective in choosing leaders also. Merit and quality become more important than personal popularity. In this group of leaders are the faces and minds of Memorialls leaders in 1976. Anita Estrada Juan Estrada Peter Estrada -,, ,Vt . The first year at Memorial is one of adaptation, the second is one of refining and polishing. lt is a time to develop emotionally and intellectually. The Sopliomores are the class of '76 and full of the strength and spirit that generates from the year of the original Minutemen. The Spirit of ,76', is present in contemporary Minutemen at Memorial. This class spirit will undoubtedly mark its climax in two more years as they celebrate their seniority, and America celebrates its Bicentennial Anniversary. Now the all-wise eighth grader finds that there is an immeasurable amount of wisdom left to be acquired and that Memorial is one place to start acquiring a vast sum of it. Freshmen are lost, at first, in a new world of faces and strange rooms. They are cautious and off balance by the transplant from Junior High. At this time adapting and discovering are key words in the life of the student. In observing the situation it becomes apparent that each individual must conform his lifestyle, being careful not to sacrifice personality, in order to master the art of relating with other people. He or she must develop prin- ciples of character and respect for the school, and that while establishing pride, be careful not to confuse pride with haughtiness. At first he roams the school with sensitive antennae feeling for the right rhythms and searching for his lost sense of belonging. Soon he feels the pulse beat of the school and discovers that his presence is as needed as any other and, that his performance is important because it is he who represents the face of the future. 1 22 Miss Keller goes over a part with Juan, Evangehne and Louis Freshmen - Y V V- Michael Vela and Jesse Vargas dismantle' R.O.T.C. artillery.
