Although she is not with us today, her memory will live in our hearts forever. In Leanne ' s memory, the Class of 1986 dedicates this yearbook to her. Her contributions and talents were many. Active in the Drama Club, Speech and Theatre Workshop, an Cranberry Players, Leanne showed much promise for a brilliant future. Always optimistic, kind, and caring, Leanne is truly missed by all of us. May the Class of 1 986 hold her memory dear and never forget all she meant to us. A Message for Leanne Leanne was the sister I never had. Whenever I was down, she would make me feel glad. She would buy me a flower, along with a card, that said I love you Cheryl. Don ' t take things so hard. We had so many good times, oh why did they have to end? How could anyone do this to my very best dearest friend? Whenever I needed a shoulder to cry on, she was always there. Or whenever I just needed to talk, she would listen and really care. I loved Leanne Ryba. She was the definition of a dear true friend. by Cheryl Dean 157 TIME PASSES AND YOU MUST MOVE ON MANUEL ZAMORA Manny Like ' : Ft]mily ,}nd Inends. weekends, party- ing. Rush, Bunloy. To come to a very great country you l now very little about, except what you have seen in the movies, heard in the news, or read from books is hard. When I came here, I did not know what to expect, what to to, what to say, or how to make friends. I was not even sure if I wanted to be here, but after my first day in MHS my doubts and fears soon changed when I was able to make friends and talk to my new classmates. When I first walked through the schools ' corridors, I felt the most terrible feeling I had ever experienced. The feeling of not belonging and the fear of rejection soon disappeared when someone came up to me and said What ' s up? Because I was not sure what this American kid was talking about, I just nodded and smiled. I think that was the first thing I did right in MHS and I will never forget that those two words made me comfortable to be here. It had been a great privilege and a rare opportunity to be sent to live in Middleboro as an exchange student because I was not only able to improve my English but also I was able to learn many things I did not expect to learn. Being from a different culture, I always thought that Americans are very different, but after three months in the high school and living with an American family, I realized how people could be different and at the same time very much alike and how friendly they can be. I am also proud to be with the MHS Class of ' 86. I owe a lot to those people in the class who made me feel that I belong with them. My exchange here has been a very memorable one to me and it is because of the teachers and my schoolmates who I know and who accepted me as part of them. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO YOU ALL! MARAMINC SALAMAT SA INYONG LAHAT! AND ON, SACHEMS! Louie Ching 124 My close friend Roy The beautiful countryside Rozan with her cousin Lilia ROZAN LANGLOIS SPENDS SUMMER ON MADEIRA I spent half of my summer of ' 85 on Madeira Island. Madeira is located off the coast of Portugal and is a mountainous area except for the cities and the valleys. My trip to Madeira was an experience I ' ll never forget. I met several nice people and made many new friends. The atmosphere was very relaxed. However, only being able to speak a little Portugese made it very difficult for me to talk to some of the people. Half of the population of Madeira knows English as a second language, so my relatives and friends helped me out once in a while. The tropical climate of the island lasts all year, so people spend most of their spare time at the beach. So did I after my sightseeing was over. I found that there were still many heavenly bodies to look at at the beach! The cities of Madeira are very clean and very busy. The fashion and music are a few steps ahead of America, which is why I found only 55 in my pocket when I returned to Boston. I have three teenage cousins in Madeira which caused me to discover that teenage life in Madeira is much different. The teenagers do not have a curfew and there isn ' t a drinking age. This also made the trip much more interesting for me. During the month I spent in Madeira I met a very close friend named Roy. Even though the distance of our countries has separated us we are still very close in thoughts and letters. I have told him about the SUPERIOR CLASS OF 86 and hopefully, in the future, he will be able to meet some of you. It was a summer I wish lasted forever. Rozan Langlois During the summer of my Sophomore year, I travelled eight European countries (in 27 days) with the 1984 Youth of America Concert. We spent four days in intense rehearsals before departing. Unto itself Europe was a fantastic experience, but with the added exhilaration of performing in such places as the Westminster Cathedral in Lor)- don. La Madeline Church in Paris, the Musica Theatre in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, and the Hofgarten Pavilion in Innsbruck, Austria, it was ab- solutely incomparable. While staying in Europe I saw such sights as the Dachau concentration camp, St. Mark ' s square in Venice, and the Colosseum in Verona. While in Paris, I was able to take the elevator to the top of the Eiffel tower — twice! We also toured the Palais du Versailles, the home of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. While in London I saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Picadilly Circus with its nearby Carnaby Street, the Mecca for many punks or skinheads. Finally, in Holland, we toured Delft, made internationally famous by its popular blue and white porcelain Delft ware. In Suirhuisterveen, Holland, we were greeted at a planned reception by our host families with whom we ' d be staying for the next two days. After a farewell concert at the nearby church, we began our 28 hour trip back home. I believe that I grew up more in those 2 1 days than during any other single period of my life. To be treated as royalty — as international youth am- bassadors as we were in Touhout, Belgium (where we were given a dinner reception by the Burghermeister) is one experience I will surely never ' forget. I thank all of the people of Middleboro and especially the MHS Speech Theatre Workshop for all of their time and dedication in helping me f ' raise money to take part in the tour. You will have a choice of doorways. Should you find one closed — don ' t become bitter; try another and a little later the first choice may then be open to you. Remember, God never closes one door but that He opens another which may indeed be the best for you. Trust in Him and keep trying. MR. WILLIAM S. A good title for her would be editor and chief organizer. JOHN SHEA drew the flip art MIKE HILTON and BRIAN PARSONS were editors; they kept this book sane. TOM VERRE is responsible for the fan- tastic artwork. f9 BRIAN HEAPS was an important assistant in all our endeavors. CHRIS HOLM did lots of things. It was a disappointing season for ttie Varsity Foot- ball team. Although the Sachems outscored their op- ponents 209-107, the final record was 5-5. The five games were lost by a total deficit of 15 points. Thus, in spite of some stunning victories, the season will not be remembered as a winning one. With many Varsity stars returning and a large number of Freshmen participating this year, there is optimism for future seasons. This year ' s Seniors will be missed greatly, particularly in the defensive backfield and will be remembered as one of the hardest hitting bunches of insane kids MHS varsity football has ever seen. by Derek Wassel MHS ponent Wareham 0 21 Apponequet 0 34 Hanover 20 16 Abington 0 35 Whitman Hanson 15 14 Duxbury 15 27 Norwell 6 21 Rockland 15 14 Scituate 29 21 East Bridgev ater 7 6 5-5-0 Freshmen Row 1: N. And now that we are here in the highlight of our life We turn and reflect upon Our agony and our strife. But, compared to all the fun we ' ve had There ' s no comparison at all. The good times always come out on top, In fact, we had a ball. I love the people I grew up with; I ' ll love them to the end. No matter how far away they get, they ' ll always be my friends. As we enter a new stage in life, I ' m scared to leave my home. I ' ll miss my family, but my friends Together we shall roam. They will not be there in a physical sense As they have always been before. But they will be there in my heart and soul Which counts for a whole lot more. As the school year draws to a close, I must tell you one and all, I ' m glad that you were here with me. In the classroom and the hall. Now, as we go our separate ways. Some people may call us hicks, But always remember that we ' re the BEST. We ' re the Class of Eighty Six! by Erin Hegarty
