Magic. A word which describes the class of 1985. There is a magical illusion of two separate pieces, yet in reality, they belong to the same body. The two pieces are like the members of our class - separate, yet belonging to one body - the Class of 1985. We are the magicians. We create magic. From fund-raisers, like ghost walks and car washes, to first prize winning floats, to Washington DC, we are successful I! But, like magicians, we work hard to create this illusion. So, let there be no doubt - the Class of 1985 has the magic touchi 1 in MEMORY KEVin RIDEOUT In the fall of 1982, the Class of ' 85 returned as Sophomores having suffered a tragic loss - our classmate, Kevin Rideout, had died in an unfortunate car accident the previous summer. Mow, in our Senior year, as graduation approaches, we shall pause a moment to remember Kevin, Although he cannot be with us at this time, a part of Kevin lives on in the hearts of each and every one of us - this very special member of the Class of 1985. LOUIS TRIMQUE On September 27, 1984, Middleborough High School lost a long-time friend, Mr. Louis Trinque. Mr, Trinque had worked at MHS as head custodian since its opening in 1972. Previously he had been employed at the Independent nail Company and Plymouth Shoe. He graduated from Middleboro Memorial High School in 1948 and served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Mr. Trinque was a life-long resident of Middleborough and he and his wife Shiriey brought up their son, Paul, here. Mr. Trinque was often heard talking about his granddaughter, Lindsay, as all proud grandfathers do. Because of his interest in students and sports, Mr. Trinque was often seen at Sachem sporting events. He assisted as the gate at football games. His concern for the high school and ail the people involved with it were a shining light in the high school. Mister Trinque was a pillar of Middleborough High School. We remember his presence, concern for others and friendly ways. We are saddened by his untimely passing away and will always think of Xouie as a large part of what MHS is all about. 2 We are the magicians. Each one of us is magical in his own special way. Throughout the years we have grown together and witnessed the changes that have taken place among us. Though each of us has his own individuality, we stick together like magic when things have to be done and problems have to be solved. We look out for one another and we help out one another. Our class - the Class of 1985 - has all these magical qualities and many more. While 1 was serving as Class Treasurer Sophomore year, I learned the ropes, which helped a lot for when 1 served as Class President Junior year. At the end of Junior year, 1 was elected to the Regional Student Advisory Council, and for Senior year to the State SAC. Both councils deal with students ' rights and laws pertaining to students. Student Council had also been a big part of my high school career. At the end of Junior year, 1 was elected SE Mass Assoc. of Student Coun- cils Treasurer. While in high school, 1 have attended eleven student council work- shops on the regional, state and national level, ranging ft-om one day to one week in length. The most exciting of all was the national Assoc. of Student Councils Convention, held in Coventry Rhode Island. The day before, Patty Caffrey and 1 served as hosts to the Wisconsin delegation at Mass Maritime. I stayed with a host family along with three other girls from different areas of the country. During my five day stay, 1 met people from all over the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Meeting people and sharing ideas is a lot of what student council is all about. I have made friends from all over the country that I ' ll never forget. If I could relive my high school days; 1 think I ' d do it exactly the same way; getting involved and meeting people. Michelle Leonard One of the many beautiful Swedish castles Pasl an, Malmo I spent my Junior year in Osby, Sweden. Osby is a small town of about 8,000 and is located in southern Sweden. During the year I lived with two host families who 1 liked very much. I also made some very good friends. The school 1 went to had about 100 kids and was similar to college here. Although 1 had to go to school, I still had time to do a little traveling. I went to Austria, Denmark, and Germany. I also visited the capital, Stockholm, several times. A few of my most memorable experiences were the riobel Prize ceremony, a Swedish Christmas and a Swedish midsommar holiday. It was a really good yearl! . Whipple who retired in December. Her expertise as a teacher and her wit have left a lasting impression on countless students. DR. LinCOLn D. LYHCH Superintendent of Schools 82 Mrs. Whipple was bom in Middleboro and has lived most of her life here. She went to Colby College in Maine and was given a special scholarship to attend Yale University for a year, back when no women were allowed to attend. She taught for a few years in Marshfield and Peterboro before she began teaching in Middleboro Memorial High School in 1957. As a teacher, Mrs. Whipple had the amazing ability to make history come alive for all her students. She made learning about our country and the world interesting and enjoyable. Mrs. Whipple plans to spend her retirement traveling and writing. She plans to eventually prove that the Vikings first landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts and also plans to write about her travels to newfoundland and Labrador. She is also hoping to finish writing her family ' s history. Mrs. Whipple was a wonderful teacher who had the magic touch of making history exciting. We will all miss her and wish her the best of luck for the future. 1985 Yearbook Message There are a thousand can ' t be doner ' s For one who says, It can . Superintendent of Schools Although the sports of MHS are varied and separate they each contain one common quality which has given them the same magic as the Class of 1985 possesses. That quality is the fact that there are no Treshmen, Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors on any of the teams; only team membersi Of all things a team needs, this is the most important. A sport is a sport no matter what, but a team, a real team, is more like a family, and that is what we ' ve got. No matter what their records may have been, no matter how many times they ' ve won or lost, the teams at MHS have been close knit and have been able to have fiin. O ' Brien Someone once said about the members of the Class of ' 85 that we have the Midas Touch ; everything we touch turns to gold. Looking at the success of our class, this statement appears to be true. The Class of ' 85 has eamed more money in its Freshman and Sophomores years than any previous class at MHS. Every activity sponsored by our class, as diverse as a Junior Mister Pageant or the class trip, has been a success. The fact that the Class of ' 85 continues to succeed under different officers every year proves we have a multitude of leaders to organize numerous hard working members. However, the secret to the magic of the Class of ' 85 involves much more than just diligence and leadership. The key to the success of our class is that we enjoy being together and working together toward common goals.
