It is an occasion we will remember, always. 15 The past determines the future. What we ' ve done determines what we can do. Some roads have shown themselves to be short, others are hmitless. Where we are going depends on where we ' ve been. The past is mirrored by an unset future. The future is every- day, and it ' s moving. The only way to know where it ' s going is to know where it has been, and where you ' re going to bring it. 16 PETER ADAMS Kama Likes: Sports, friends, parties. You will find that these days, taken all together, will make the world a little better for tomorrow. WILLIAM S. WASSEL Principal Dear Graduating Seniors, As I think back to the beginning of this school year, I am reminded of our opening school assembly with seniors. At that time I stressed to you the impact that a senior class can have on its high school. The leadership the senior class chooses to demonstrate often times sets the tone for the entire school ' s success of lack of success. During 1982-83 we have seen numerous individuals from your class carry out this challenge in the classroom, at extra curricular endeavors and out in the community with excellent achievements both individually and collectively. We are proud of what your class has accomplished. As you leave Middleborough High School and go your separate ways, I hope you will not hesitate to return and share your success as well as your failures with your former teachers and administrators. We hope that you feel we have had a small impact on your lifes and that we will always be concerned, interested and above all, supportive. Best of luck in your future endeavors. Sincerely, William S. To some people it is only a title and means nothing. However, for most of us it is a great inspiration to do good for your class. As many of you realize, at times it is ver ' difficult to carry out this responsibility and you may be asked why you do it: only you know the answer to that. Even though academics are hard to accept sometimes, I feel that social communication in the school is always easy. For those of you who don ' t think so, get involved in your class council; working with others is what it ' s all about. Many of us have experienced this and I think it is our responsibilit - to get others to participate. I hope the underclassmen have read this and in the future they think about it, because they may never know how rewarding it is to help their class. by Cheri Butler 86 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Karen Reed - Treasurer; Cheri Butler - Vice President; Bill Fuller - President; DaVvn Small- wood - Secretary JUNIOR CLASS COUNCIL Row 1: Adv. In our school, we have a course that helps students understand these sources; it is the Journalism course. The Journalism course is the only English elective. It is intended to help students understand all aspects of journalism to instruct the student in journalistic skills and to improve on writing and journalistic skills. This class puts out the school newspaper, The Sachem Sentry. The students write articles, justify their work, put the paper together and sell it. The number of chores encountered is endless. These include removal of underclassmen, noise control, and stopping pillow fights. Seniors also feel we should be their servants, and perform such chores as closing and opening curtains and bringing them books or pillows! Why not? they say, since we ' re already picking up trash, we might as well do them a favor. Monitors also have to take the ever important sign up sheet to the office and change the bulletin board when necessary. But, the most important task we monitors have is smuggling in a radio for our listening pleasure. This may be a big risk, but we Senior Lounge Monitors are willing to take it, and many more, for our class! by Rose Arruda SCIENCE LAB AV ASSISTANTS ASSISTANTS Row 1: A. Leveque, T. Brown, J. We reached heights that had never been reached in MHS Field Hockey history. The dream of achieving a tournament berth became a reality. We finished in second place in the league with a 12-2-3 record and accomplished many outstanding feats never thought possible in the eyes of an MHS Field Hockey player. The offense scored an exceptional 33 goals for the season and the defense allowed only four goals to pass through the net. Lisa Brown is to be commended for scoring 15 of those goals. The season, remembered by team members not just for the stunning winning record is also remembered for the hard work, dedication, teamwork and grueling practices. Field Hockey was a commitment for squad members, a commitment shared with Coach Karen Costa. Together, team members and coach were constantly striving for a goal. We reached the tournament, we ' re proud, and we will always remember what it ' s like to be on the top. By Karol Martin Maureen McGlone Sharon Wentworth Row 1: Co Capts L. Stephanian, L. You guys! on the play The Varsity football team began their season with a startling victory against Wareham. The success of Sachem defense was evident from this first game. As the season progressed, the team began to lose something . . . players! This year was notorious for the number of injuries the Sachems suffered. Although the Sachems record was 5-5 this season, many of the losses were close contests where a stronger offense would have made the difference. The Cheerleaders, Band and fans contributed tremendous- ly to the spirit and excitement of the Varsity games. This year may not have been the best season ever, but all team members learned something about themselves. The 1983 Football team was one of pride and togetherness. Even with five losses, they were one as a team, always fighting for each other. Hannigan 120 BOYS BASKETBALL Nice Pass, JD Good Defense, Pete 122 Bob at his best The Sachems, plagued by a rather disappointing record this year, should nevertheless be commended for an outstanding team effort and spirit. Led by Seniors Bob Leite, John White and Captain Peter Caffrey and with out- standing contributions from Juniors Chuck Washington and Chad Litt- lefield, the team consistantly put forth a strong effort. Laclcing only Varsity experience, the team lost at least nine games by six points or less this year. Such frustrating losses were the story this year, but their never say die attitude was one that Coach Littlefield and the school can long be proud of. Strong contributions were also made by John Danielczyk, Parnell Harrison and Mike McGuirk. by Peter Caffrey VARSITY Front: Capt. P. Caffrey Standing: Ass ' t Coach J. Mackiewicz, B. Leite, T. That may not sound like an extraordinary record, but competing against one of the toughest schedules in the state, the Sachem squad enjoyed a very successful season. Coach Berry will be looking forward to more successful seasons as the interest in Wrestling has grown very much this year. Individually, the Sachems had two Norwell Tourney Champions in 114 pound Scott Longanbach and heavyweight Mike Hatch, both finishing the season undefeated with Hatch posting all victories via the pin for the second straight regular season. Dan Duggan and Scott Wassel lost only two and three matches respectively. All four of these Wrestlers should do well in the sectional and state tournaments this season. In addition to the practical experiences in the field, students earn money from their part-time jobs and are able to help finance their individual living expenses as well as to save for future educational expenses. Many students in these programs go on to further their education while others are prepared for direct job-entry upon graduation. But the groups divide further. Red is caught in a tree - orange meanders curiously. Yellow aspires, but can go no higher. Blue rises too quickly, and bursts. Green goes off in his own direction. Indigo stops to take in the others from above. But purple in all his majesty Floats triumpantly onward and upward Until he reaches the Limit of the sky 192 WAiAwrwrM PIIBUSHINC COMPANY MARCEUNC.
