RAYNES Here we stand, at the threshold of our lives - the future beckoning to us and. yet. our pasts still reaching out. bringing memories of friends that have been lost along the path of life . Friends that have been lost . but will never leave us . Some decisions have been made, and some yet wait in the distance. We are filled with anticipation of what the future holds at this time. A gentle reminder of three young men causes us to be still in the face of time, recalling those special people. Though they have left this world . they will always be very much a part of us . i The years ahead of us will quickly pass. For this moment, however, we will pause, as the soft breezes of remembrance pass over us and through us. bringing the knowledge that our friends are al{ve in our memories. His name is Mark Jennings; he is sponsored by his local Rotary Club for a year of study at MHS. Mark describes his schooling in Brisbane as formal, with more traditional courses. Students wore uniforms and discipline included Cuts - a piece of cane about 12 across used on the knuckles. Ouch! ! Mark likes Squash, rock climbing, current affairs, reading, history, any type of music and backpacking. Mark ' s choice of sports preferences varies from that of his counterparts in the US. Rugby League, Rugby Union, Soccer, Swimming and Cricket are his favor- ites. New experiences are part of an Exchange Student ' s life, and Mark is no exception. Mark tried skating: the first time, he could stand up. The second time, he could move his feet. The third time, he actually skated. Eating clams was another new experience. Mark enjoys them. In Australia, clams are used as fish bait. Upon his return home in January 1978, Mark will attend Queensland University in Brisbane, where he will be enrolled in the law faculty. We wish Mark much success and happiness , both as an exchange student and in his future olans. 3 ..N ' 1 V V r MESSAGES TO THE SENIORS KENNETH L. JOHNSON Principal Years will pass rapidly. Cherish the friendships and the relationships that you have developed during your high school years. A true friend is a priceless possession, Your friend is true because you see in thai person the qualities with which you relate, share , and even emulate . Extend this measure to others whom you have met or will meet. Goodness is not limited to a select few but is inherent in some way in all. As profoundly expressed by Edwin Markham: He drew a circle that shut me out - Heretic , rebel , a thing to flout . But Love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle that took him in . ' The whole secret of remaining happy in spite of burdens is to develop enthusiasm in loneself, by poetry, by contemplation, by charity - that is, in fewer words, by the maintenance of harmony in your soul. When everything is in its right place within us, we ourselves are at peace and in har- mony with God. Deep enthusiasm for the eternal beauty and the eternal order , reason touched with emotion and a serene tender- ness of heart - these surely are the founda- tions of happiness and wisdom . LINCOLN D. From Attorney and Mrs. Albert T. Maddigan During our lives, We have many an illusion Our hopes, fears, regrets, sorrows. Many of us imagine that The end of a good thing is final But in our growth as a unified body of human beings, I believe we can say this is only the beginning Of new life, future, hopes . . . Although we part physically. Our minds are forever linked by an unbreakable bond. Consisting of love and friendship. And strengthening with new dreams, and most Important a lasting understanding that True friends remain so.
