Sa 'ze fddd Left to right: jane Correia, Treasurer, Ronald Piava, Vice President, Sara Leonard, Secretary, Frederick Underhill, President. 5 September 8, 1953, came so fast that last year's Freshmen hardly had a chance to catch their breaths when, lo and behold, we were Sophomores! In organization, the class of '56 has had an unusual experience. At our last class meeting as Freshmen, we elected four classmates whom we thought could carry on the duties of class officers most effectually. Since then it has been necessary to have a re- election. The officers now are President, Frederick Underhill, Vice President, Ronald Piavag Secretary, Sara Leonard, and Treasurer, Jane Correia. Socially, the class has been active. This year's annual Sophomore Social was staged at Christmas time. Besides dancing, we sold refreshments and provided entertainment. This was just one ot the highlights of our Sophomore year. Then, too, we were the first class to start saving, as Sophomores, for our Senior Class Trip. Not to be left out of the honors, we are represented by Sara Leonard and Harold Fasulo, who were both elected to the Silver Society. Good luck to you both! Sports is another activity which we all seem to like and participate in. Many of our boys played on the football and basketball teams, and some of the girls helped to make hockey, basketball, and cheerleading successful. DEBORAH THOMAS

Absent: Roberta Caswell, President. 66444 Qfwtofzq In May, 1953, we experienced our first introduction to M.H.S. when we attended a get-acquainted social planned for us by the Class of '56. The following September we, the Class of '57, began our four years in high school. Our first class meeting was held in October, during which we nominated candidates for the class officers. Later, by means of a ballot, we elected Roberta Caswell as Presi- dent, Irving Murphy as Vice President, Carolyn Marshall as Secretary, and David Sopha as Treasurer. The Freshman football team was coached by Mr. Rapisardi, assisted by Jerry Trinque. The basketball team was under the able direction of Mr. Allen. Our cheerleaders did a wonderful job led by Captain Roberta Caswell. They were Marilyn Perkins, Alice Hearn, and Carolyn Marshall. Miss Bartlett again did a fine job of organizing our girls' field hockey, basketball, and softball teams. The girls all think she's wonderful. Plans are being made for another get-acquainted party to be held this May. Next year's Freshmen from Bates School, Assawompsett School, and Pratt Free School are planning to attend. The class elected four candidates to the Silver Society. They are Carolyn Marsh- all, Francis Petkunas, Frank Petkunas, and William Wheeler. We wish them lots of luck in the final election. And last, but certainly not least, we wish to express our gratitude to the faculty and all the upperclassmen for making our first year at M.H.S. so wonderful. JANE cAMPBELL JAMEs CHURBUCK
