School Policies Culminate Here As the principal of Memorial, Mr. John Gallagher supervises the education of 1850 students. He makes sure that the students get a broad education in preparation for their future. Area Schools Progress In 1961, the consolidation of the Eau Claire Area Schools took place and is now under the direction of one school board. Con- sisting of eight members, the board annually handles routine problems such as the budget, development, and negotiations in the salaries of teachers and custodians. Other subjects discussed this year were new programming in the elementary school, data processing, and modular scheduling. The issue of whether a new junior high school should be built has been tossed about for the past two years. On November 18, a referendum was held and part of the Town of Union rejected it. This area was the pro- posed site of the school. Front Row: Zelda. Wingad, Bernice Hanger, Betty Seng, Leone Lewis. Lunch Program Revised A new system was used for purchasing lunches, eliminating the inconvenience of tickets. Lunches were paid for upon receiving at the cost of forty cents. Another addition to the lunch system was the variety of food choices. Students were given several menus to select meals from.
