Iune 10, 1960-The excitement of gradua- tion and the end of another school year was somewhat dampened by the news that a new high school was going to be built in the southern part of Manchester. This new school, to be named Memorial , was to enroll more than half of our class. With mixed emotions, we bade good-bye to many good friends and to the walls of what would be our sister,' school. Tl-IE SIGN OF OUR TEETI-I - 1960-1961 Sandra Carson September 4, 1960-The class of 1962 was the first junior class to enter the new high school of which we are all so proud. In the first few weeks of school there seemed to be more carpenters and saw-horses around than pupils. September 23, 1960-Sports history of a sort took place tonight when the Memorial High Crusaders victoriously edged the Central Little Green 8-6. A large num- ber of boys on the team were juniors: joe Barry, jim Dickey, Art Doukas, Paul Evans, Dave Gladu, Dennis Gleason, Chuck Hennessey, Cecil jordan, Andy Kyriazis, Bill Louis, ancl Dan O'Neil. Cheering our boys on to victory at all our sports events were our peppy cheerleaders, five of whom were juniors: Ianine Beau- lieu, Dale Brown, Sharon Fay, Cynthia Hagianis, and Sally Iulian. November 9, 1960-The annual Iunior Miss New Hampshire Contest found our class attractively represented with Cynthia Ha- gianis and Marion Luicha vying for the coveted title. November 18, 1960-Aware of the need for money to defray the expenses of gradua- ton and the production of the yearbook, the Iunior Class elected a slate of officers to chart the course of the Class of 1962. Those elected were as follows: Peter Fogg. chairmang Marsha Robinson, secretary 3 and Dorothea Covatis, treasurer. Under the able guidance of our adviser, Miss LaMontagne, the officers and home room representatives met every other Tuesday to devise fund-raising projects. Deggmber 4, 1960-If one were to walk by e seen another hard working deter rii hi-:d Memorial team at work. The bas- ketball team, which consisted ofjjuniors, Art Doukas, Sonny Boisvert, Nick Mace- nas, -Rick-Morse aind-Wal-ly Rozmus who gym every night after school, he would ' I a ' went on through the winter months to reap a victorious season and to win the city championship. Ianuary 6, 1961-With the beginning of a new year we, as Iuniors, began to make those now familiar trips to the guidance ofiice to formulate plans for the future. UNH, Dartmouth, Colby junior, N. H. Tech, or Keene Teachers College? Miss McCarthy and Mr. Crotty began introduc- ing us to the many colleges by the way of the college catalogues. It suddenly began to dawn on us that graduation was a little nearer than we had realized. February 14, 1961-The first fund-raising project of the junior Class took place to- night. This event which later proved to be more on the fund-losing side was en- joyed by all. March 3, 1961-This was a big month in the sports realm. Manchester ,Memorial as one of the top eight teams in Class L was entitled to a berth in the state finals at Durham. We progressed as far as the semi-finals at which point we were handed a defeat by the state power-house, Nashua. Our boys did a remarkable job under the direction of Coach Iauron. March 16, 1961-The annual National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests were held here at school with the entire Iunior class taking part. Later it was announced that of our students, Peter Fogg, Larry Sfinas, Diane Proulx, and Bradford Smith were awarded certificates of Merit for their out- standing performance. April 1-6, 1961-This month might have been a slow one for New York society but Memorial more than made up for it in the opening days of April. The much-awaited for Memorial Week was now in full swing 'with fits' concerts, skits, basketball games and..t'alent+shoW.' The highlights of the . .1 . F t Row: Ianine Beaulieu, week was the crowning of Bob Lucci and Carol LaDuke as Mr. and Miss Memorial for 1961. April 20, 1961-The Iunior Class was hon- ored by having six of its students chosen for membership in the National Honor Society. The Iuniors inducted were Ianine Beaulieu, Stanley Kosowicz, lane Powers, Brad Smith, Carol Weeks and Carol Wov- Kanech. April 25, 1961-With the spring sunshine we found our two spring sports teams avidly practicing everyday, the trackmen trying to chop that extra one-quarter sec- ond off their mile and the baseball players whacking the ball over the fence every now and then. Trackmen for the '61 sea- son from our class were Ioe Barry, Ierry Healy, Cecil Iordan and Dan Lein. Our baseball players were Art Doukas, Ierry Healy, Andy Kyriazis and Walter Roz- mus. May 12, 1961-Tonight was the big social event of the year, the Iunior Prom. In a beautiful setting entitled Oriental Para- dise we saw the Iunior Prom Queen and her Court chosen. Dorothea Covatis was the Queen, with Sandra Carson, Kathleen White, Barbara Taintor and Ieanne Mc- Donald as member-s of the court. We danced to the music of George Ine's Or- chestra. Iune 15, 1961-The strains of music on class day reminded us that next year we, too, would be the leaders of the school. Our first year in the Glass Palace had fast drawn to an end. Mr. and Miss Melnorial Candidates R,0Y3lfY fO1' 8 weelx H nnessey, Walter Rozmus, Andy Kyiiazis. Dan Lein. Dale Brown, Sharon Fay, Cynthia Hagianis, Sallyan Iulian. Second Row: Brad Smith, Chuck T!-IE LAST f-IAIQRAI-I - lQ6l-1962 Marsha Robinson September 1961-Once again the glass doors of Memorial were opened to its students who by now were familiar with its new- ness. And with the excitement of the past year still fresh in our minds, we as seniors realized that this year we would have to carry to greater heights the traditions and customs already established. September 23-Without the confusion of the preceding year, we were able to start things rolling by the election of our class officers: President, Peter Fogg, Vice Presi- dent, Dorothea Covatisg Secretary, Sallyan Iulian, Treasurer, Brad Smith. Along with representatives, these interested stu- dents began to organize and prepare for graduation activities which would soon be upon us. October 1961-With a new coach on the staff, our football team was raring to go. Our 'Bigl team again beat arch rival Cen- tral with the rugged leadership of the co- captains Andy Kyriazis and Dave Gladu, plus senior teammates Wally Rozmus, Brad Smith, Bob Paris, Chuck Hennessey, Dan O,Neil, Bill Louis, Cecil Iordan, and Ierry Healy. H-owever, because of stiff opposition, they did not fare as well with other teams. October 27-The senior class put on a suc- cessful Autumn Leaves semi-formal which was followed later by a record hop, one of several fund-raising projects. December 1961-The opening of the second hoop season started with considerable con- Hdence in our quintet, mainly because of last year's fine showing. Back with us was our sharpshooter and also captain of the team, Wally Rozmusg a team-inspiring Rick Morse, Brad Smith, and Andy Kyria- zis. Because of many close decisions and the nwrongl' breaks our Crusader five were nudged out of the tournament and placed ninth in the Class L standings. But our overtime victory over Bradley com- pensated for much of our despair. December 25-The Marionettes, our young Thespians, presented Christmas in Re- view , and later on in the year its annual play K'The Claw in the same fine style. Senior members included Peter Wovkon- ish, Kathleen White, and Phyllis Sapienza. Ianuary 20-Our Roaring Twenties record hop was the most fun-packed dance yet given at Memorial. The many gay cos- tumes gave it just the atmosphere needed. March 25-This was the beginning of f'Memorial Week,', so anxiously awaited by everybody. The Student Council with Bob Dydo as President and Carol Weeks as Vice President did a comendable job in organizing the activities. However, the final reward for all the hard work was the crowning of Mr. and Miss Memorial: Andy Kyriazis and Sallyan Iulian. April 1962-Our new band leader Mr. Mira- bile, demonstrated his fine talents not only at the assemblies and pep rallies, but also at a chorus recital and a concert both of which proved quite enjoyable to all. April 1962-Memorial High students were given some time on the radio. All the latest scoop from M.M.H.S. was featured on this fifteen minute program. May 4-As one of the last activities of the senior class. our Sock Hop left fond mem- ories for all concerned since it was our final informal dance. june 17-The climax of our four years of comprehensive education was suddenly upon us: graduation was here.
