Unfortunately several students left us this year. They are Mave-Belle Stickney, Raymond Stickney, and Peter Pozerycki. Because of the loss of these students, it was neces- sary to elect other students to fill their positions in the Student Council and that of the Vice-President. Council members elected were Teresa Peterson and Ianice McKinnon. The Vice-President is now Martha Lynch. The junior food sale was held on October ll, and we wish to thank all those who helped to make it successful. This year the Iunior Prom was ours to plan and antici- pate. The Prom seems to be something every high school girl and boy anticipates with eagerness. Because of the hard work of our class this year's Prom was a huge success. Q5 Iii V! During the year we welcomed Richard Bastianson to our class and bade farewell to Frances Drake, Warren Cole, Sharon Stickney, and Glen Weglarz. The sophomore class was well represented this year in extracurricular activities. Several participated in bas- ketball, baseball, dramatics, chorus, band, and cheer- leading. We elected three members to the Student Council. 'They were Douglas Gould, Lawrence Haney, and Richard Bastianson. A very successful food sale was held May 9. President ....... . D. E Freshman Class We started our first year of high school with thirty- four members. Each one of us was anxiously awaiting initiation. But when initiation week arrived, we discovered that it wasn't so bad, after all our worries. After initiation we settled down to the more serious side of our school life, studies and our first report card. Many freshmen participated in the various activities and found them extremely enjoyable. Representing us in the Student Council were Russell Worthen and Dorinda Toppan. Our spring food sale was a wonderful success with the able assistance of our class advisor, Mr. McCoy. We are looking forward to our sophomore year in hope that it will be as enjoyable as this. Mr. Genetti The purpose of our Student Council is to hear, discuss, and act upon the student body's suggestions for a better school. Before these suggestions can be discussed or acted upon, they must be presented by the representatives to the rest of the council. It is the duty of these representatives to hear and understand suggestions and complaints of the students. Any student feeling the need for changes or improvements around our school should feel free to contact his class representatives about it. An active Student Council sponsors many activities and is responsible for many of the measures taken to better a school. ln our few meetings this year, we discussed improving the school spirit. However, no definite action was taken regarding this. The traditional right of Student Council representatives to give detention in the absence of a teacher was continued. Two representatives from the junior class, Raymond Stickney and Peter Pozerycki, moved away and were replaced by Ianice McKinnon and Teresa Peterson. RL',N'.' CNE: I. McKinnon, P. Powden, S. Shortly after the school year began, spirited work started on the Senior Play, The Night of Ianuary l6th, a drama which displayed some fine acting. All members of the club workled assiduously on scenery to make the courtroom setting appear realistic Next, three skits depicting various attitudes toward basketball were performed for the student body to introduce the basketball season. A play, Christmas Customs, was staged for school assembly. The entire script was written by members of our club. Later on, the plays, The Ghost of Punkin Holler and Wilbur Takes His Medicine, as well as the skit entitled The Easiest Way, were presented. It certainly was an outstanding year, made possible only by the tireless, efficient direction of Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Hewitt, who were with us for the first semester, and ambitious participants. Some of the activities enjoyed by members this year were: the Older Boys Confer- ence, held in Claremont in Novemberg the Older Girls Conference, held in Laconia in March, a mid-winter splash party: and the Holy Cross-Dartmouth football game in November. Because of the conscientious work done by the President, Thomas Gilbert, and the other officers, each meeting and activity was both worthwhile and enjoyable. ROW GNL: 5. Frame, B. Morrill, S. Through the bookmobile we receive books from the Concord State Library, and the Science Travel Library ships us books monthly. ln addition to this we are an affiliate of the Bristol Town Library. New cabinets and files have been installed to store maps and magazines. The student librarians are doing a fine job with their responsibilities. Some of these include keeping the shelves in order, assisting library users in their problems, and ac- counting for all books in use. It has been made suc cessful through the co-operation of the girls both in practice and in the devising of new cheers and routines. Mrs. Ruell, our advisor, gave us much help by insis- ting on the perfection of each cheer, regular practice sessions, and the obeying of the rules of fair play at all times. At tryouts this year eight girls were chosen. Three, Ioyce Hatfield, Patricia Hubbard and Earlene Wells, were veterans. The new girls were Sharon Powers, Martha Hicks, Sharon Stickney, Marsha Auchterlonie, and our alternate, Gail Brett. During the first part of the year Sharon Stickney moved away, and Gail took her place as a regular cheerleader. We chose Earlene Wells as our head cheerleader. Under her efficient leadership, the girls ! displayed much school spirit and obeyed the rules of good sportsmanship. This year, as in form 91' YEGTS, we Were proud to compete in the Cheerleading Tournament held in Meredith in February. Girls' Basketball Coach, Mr. Sederstrom Manager, I. McKinnon The girls' team had a very large turnout this season. Freshmen on the team are Betty Mortenson, Francis Peterson, Dorinda Toppan, Lois Duff, Ellen Simpson, Brenda Adams, and Iustine Delsart. The sophomores are Phyllis Avery and Loretta Defosses. The juniors are Nancy Morrison, Martha Lynch, Margaret Powden, Nancy Kenny, Barbara Gendron and our manager, Ianice McKinnon. We will be losing only one player at graci- uation, Natalie Ouint. The girls have worked long and hard for their new coach, Mr. Sederstorm, and his assistant for half of the season, Miss McBride of P. T. C. The schedule of '58-'59 included the Bristol Alumni, Plymouth, Belmont, Meredith, Ashland, Lincoln, and New London. A new team appearing in the schedule was Tilton, who had a girls' team for the first time this year. The girls are promising a winning season next year, as there is a strong and deter- mined team returning. H ROW ONE: N. Morrison, N. Kenney, B. Gendron, N. Quint, M. Lynch, P. Avery, P. Cummings Despite the graduation of seven of last year's lettermen, the inexperienced Varsity team rose above the expectations of most fans. The four seniors on this year's team, Thomas Gilbert, Philip Eastman, Earl Williams, and Stephen Curley, will be missed and needed by next year's team. Their positions on the squad will be hard to fill. The remainder of the team consists of Danny Harvey, Bill Simpson, and Vance Duff, juniors: and Ronald Bucklin and Douglas Gould, Soph- omores. The fellows on the team would like to thank Coach Emery for the fine training given them. Bill Cummings is to be commended for his excellent job as manager. The seniors on the squad wish for next year's varsity both a successful season and a continued determination to uphold the principles of good sportsmanship. ROW ONE: D. Gould, E. Williams, D. Harvey, V. Duff, S. Curley, ROW TWO: T, Gilbert, W. Simpson, P. Eastman. Q Junior Varsity Basketball Coach, Mr. Day Manager, W. Cummings It is to be expected that Iunior Varsity, the training ground for Varsity players, will lose each year those players who prove themselves ready for the move upward. Eight of last year's men left the jayvee ranks this year, but newcomers quickly filled the ranks again. Coach Day and the boys worked hard and had a good season. Iohn Fairbank, David Greenan, and Wayne Morrill did a good job of clearing the boards, supported by the neat ball-handling of Chris Slayton, Peter Schofield, Bob Graves, Allen Eastman, Merton Austin, and Bob Gilbert. ROW ONE: P. Schofield, C. Slayton, I. Fairbank, A. Eastman, W. Morrill. ROW TWO: M. Austm, D- G1'?el'l5I1, R- Gilbert. rl E, nl. Soon they are ruffling through papers, thelr penells are scratching, and new ideas are considered. Due to the efforts of a hard worklng group, the deadllne is met, and the copy is sent to the publlsher. We hope that our readers get as much enjoyment from it as the staff did in its pre- paratlon.
