Richard D. Evans SUPERlNTENDENT'S .1 'inn Carlton Kissner Assistant Superintendent Business 8 Finance 4 f +4 Public Education, whose roots are em- bedded in the spiritual sources of American Life, has provided you with an educational program, activities and learning experiences, designed to perpetuate the American tradi- tion and enhance individual expression and development. As you attain maximum growth and development, you become aware of your rights and duties as an American citi- zen. Education's role is to teach you how to live successfully in a society of material plenty. You must realize that these material blessings you enjoy are not self-perpetuating -that to live the fuller life you must seek the truth, serve human needs and as Abraham Lincoln said, Be sure you put your feet in the right place and then stand firm. Educa- tion essentially entails the solving of basic problems of modern life-bringing our moral and spiritual capabilities into balance with our technological progress. It is the wish of the Board of Education, administration and the teaching staff, that the foundation laid, the training and exper- ience you have had while in school, will enable you to build a life enriched by useful accomplishments, kind deeds, and real service. The future belongs to those who prepare for it was the motto of our recent graduating classes. This motto is so true today when the world we live in demands so much preparation of its young people in the form of education for life's work. I hope the students of Melvindale High School prepare through study and activity for a future of success and service to the community. My congra- tulations to the Yearbook Staff and their sponsor for again bringing us a fine Yearbook. Robert C . Nunn Principal PRINCIPAl'S 0FFlCE Student citizenship in the High School is based on the proposition that the stu- dent has reached the age of responsibility and will carry on his daily school life on the same high level of conduct as the best types of older adults. Carrying on as an adult involves a number of qualities of character such as self-control, honesty, cooperation, sincerity, and constant at- tempt to be womanly and manly. Free- dom within the limits of law, order, and respect for the rights of other persons , is the High School Ideal for every student . William O. Abdon Assistant Principal 'I4
