Next year most of the boys will be returning, enabling the junior var- sity to have a much better ball club. Their record of one win, four losses, and one tie does not show justice to the boys because they lost several ball games by close scores which, with a little luck, they could have easily won. Because of their excellent playing this year, Dick Porter and Don Tessmer, linemeng George Nyeste and Bob Burge, backfield men, will no doubt move up to varsity. There are some other boys who stand an excellent chance for promotion. This year for the first time in junior varsity football history the team played a game under the lights. The Cards ended up in second place, in the Twin-Valley Conference, winning seven and los- ing three. The Cards started off the season by beating Lincoln Park, 40 to 33. In the next game their title hopes were jolted when Ecorse beat them 38 to 36. The following week the Cards came into their own by beating Dearborn 47 to 44. This was the first time in five years that the Cards had beaten the Pioneers on their own floor. In a tough game with River Rouge, the Cards lost in the last two seconds of play, 44 to 42. After losing this heartbreaker, they were again defeated, this time by Romulus, 51 to 45. With a Twin Valley game next on the schedule, the Cards trounced Lowrey, 53 to 46. Now, a victory under their belt, the Cards played their first Tuesday game of the year beating Allen Park, 62 to 38. Playing Lincoln Park on the latter's floor, the Cards still held the jinx over them and beat them 56 to 43. Revenge in their hearts, the Cards next played and beat Wyandotte, 61 to 32. Their title hopes very high, once more our Cards were dumped by the under-rated Ecorse Red Raiders, 55 to 46. With three of their toughest games coming, the team buckled down to hard work. They beat Dearborn, 53 to 44. The next Tuesday they lost to Detroit Catholic Central, 55 to 50. Then came the biggest game of the year when the varsity team faced River Rouge. The team, ignoring what the papers said about how they were to get beaten, went out and upset River Rouge, 56 to 54. Wayne was the next team they defeated by a score 64 to 49. The varsity ended up successully in their last twin valley game, beat- ing Lowrey 56 to 37. In the District, the Cards were a sad disappointment even though they won their first game against Allen Park 46 to 37.
