time (tim), n. 1. A general concept that can be divided into measurable portions of blocks, days, weeks, WEEKENDS, months, and years encompassing the past, present, and future. Time, comprised of past, present, and future, brings us to where we are today. One must change with the times. Capturing the essence of high school life and projecting forecasts of time to come is what a yearbook is all about. As the times change, so must a yearbook. Years from now, looking back on high school, names and faces will be just that, names and faces. Stories behind these names and faces are what really tell it all. As time goes on, the names get fuzzy and the faces begin to look somewhat unfamiliar. However, a story told on paper is one forever told. This yearbook will always hold the memories of the past. The yearbook is about the class of 1988, although thoughts of high school will always center around a smaller group of friends. This yearbook can relay the accomplishments of distant classmates and perhaps give a greater respect for the many individual personal- ities that collectively make up our class.

A Minute With The Men In Charge he assistant prmci- pat—that tar away being that roams the halls to make sure that everything is in order, is not just the figurehead that ev- eryone thinks he is. Born in E verett, Mr. Frontero worked his way through the town ' s public school system. Graduating from Everett High School, he went on to Northeastern University. He was a teacher and an adjustment counselor at Ever- ett High, prior to coming to Melrose High. Mr. Frontero ' s mam ob at MHS is pro- gramming the schedules for the students and teachers, and computing the report cards. He is also the “administrative liaison ' ' for the head teachers and directors. He feels that the students should have ample time for schedul- ing and that once having decided on a sched- ule, a student should adhere to it. Mr. Fron- tero believes that this approach will prepare the students for later life when they must make commitments. He thinks of the class of 1988 as a very active and involved class; he regards the beginning of our senior year as one of the best in his years at Melrose High. very student at Melrose High School knows that our principal is Claude Cros- ton. but few of us know the man from the first floor office. Born in Haverhill, Mr. Croston attended Haverhill High and after graduat- ing went on to Wake Forest University, where he majored In the Social Sciences. Mr. Croston came to Melrose High as a psychology teacher in 1958, and he was, according to his colleagues, “a teacher’s teacher. He took over the position of principal at M.H.S the year before the move to the new building. From the start, he has given all of his energy to make Melrose High the best high school in the country. Mr Croston maintains a true open door policy, always trying to help his kids in any way he can. In his duties as our principal, he is responsible for the administration of the staff, the faculty, and the other administrators. He super- vises safety and security, and makes sure that we, his students, get the best possi- ble education. It is, to quote our principal, “a monumental task. ■o ' AV r. Hurley grew up in Malden but has since transplanted his roots to Melrose. He graduated from Boston Col- lege and received his Mas- ter ' s Degree from Boston University. He has four sons, three of whom attend Melrose Public Schools. Mr. Hurley has coached baseball, basketball, and Little League teams, and was once an Athletic Director. Mr. Hurley is known th rough t out M H S. as the disciplinarian; he has been an assistant principal for six years. Before that he worked as a guidance counselor and, in many ways, Mr Hurley still gives guidance to M.H.S. students. He also gives advice to Mr. Croston for the curriculum and overall opera- tions of Melrose High School. He’s for the students, not against them. He comes to the kids’ level. He says what’s on his mind. He’s very understanding, and he’s someone to look up to, to admire, and to go to with a problem. He’s tough on the outside, but he’s really sweetheart.” He’s cool. I love him. “For a management type he’s O K , I suppose. He’s swell. “He has a heart the size of a house. 4 When I think of him, I think, ‘Please report to the second floor office. ’
