Top Right: Michelle Koehler repeatedly tells her- self, One more mile . one more ... Above: The thought of a hot bath keeps Katie Woods going. Front Row: Michelle Koehler, Captain Lori DiLullo, Captain Karen Joyce, Joanna Bannen. Back Row: Valerie Dragan, Annette Hawes, Paula Oliveira, Katie Woods, and Tanya Wilson “Join girls cross country 7 — But I don ' t know how to ski!” Too many of us have heard too much of this over the years. Although convincing a classmate to run three miles up and down hills is worse than pulling teeth, Melrose High School managed to dredge up (we like that word Mr Poulos!) a girls ' team for the second year in a row. The team, con- sisting of nine runners set a school record with three wins, (DON ' T laugh, a school record is a school record!). The old pros had a lot to adjust to this year due to the new coaching of Mr. Allison. However, it was a pleasant switch to have a coach running with you instead of driving beside you. It was difficult, though, to say goodbye to many traditions. You start running at the gate , ‘‘You have to cross the sidewalk to DO Pumphouse,” You’re supposed to slap the gate when you come in” and, of course, mini vans. Some traditions never die. Our good times include: Happy Birthday ice cream with broken spoons, ‘We won a few and we still looked good!” Candles to open the lockers, ‘‘you took my blue socks, the forgotten K party, ‘‘where are the freshmen 7 ”, green trash bar- rels— relax! Thanks Mr. Allison, sorry for a few things. Thanks guys, ‘‘Yeah, you made a better cake— we admit it . 30
