What 7 The bell did Sean Brennan appears to be the loser of art class musical chairs ring 7 The alarm rings— six o ' clock. He heads for the shower in hopes that it will awaken his groggy body. It doesn ’ . He tumbles into school by quarter to eight and then patiently tolerates five (or was it six?) teachers trying to cram knowledge into his already confuse d brain. At two o’clock he lugs home all of his homework (at least what he hasn ' t forgotten— those morning classes seem so distant now). He completes them along with various other activities; some are vital to his existence, others are time killers. He drops off to sleep. The alarm rings. It ' s Tuesday. We ' re all familiar with this routine— too familiar. The routine has linked us together in coexistence for three years. However, it is the only thing about us that others see. Overlooking the many diverse individuals that make up the class of 1988 is much like merely looking at the surface of a clock. It is the many small parts inside the clock that make it tick, while the face is only a display. The class of 1988 is made up of 365 moving parts that give us the life and movement that is seen from the outside. It’s the end of your senior year. No more excuses, this is it. For the first time, you are truly allowed to do what you want. No one is there to nag you to do your homework. It’s up to you. In college, or so you ' ve heard, you pass or fail on your own credentials, not on how good your support network is. You have true responsibility for the first time, true accountability. Now you an- swer to yourself, not to your parents, not to your teachers. It is now that you find out if you, yourself, are equal to the task of life— the adventure, the learning that awaits! Now you will learn who it is that you truly are. You see the first glimmerings of what it is you actually want to be. You will begin to discover the depths and beauties of others and yourself. Time To Get Ready Some familiar sounds returned to the athletic field in late August. The sounds of players moaning, coaches yelling and whistles blowing echoed through the empty bleachers. These sounds of soccer, volleyball, field hockey, golf, band, football, girls swimming, cross country and cheerleading, were heard as the teams stormed the field for strenuous summer sessions. The sessions ran throughout late August with tiresome morning and afternoon practices. The athletes didn’t exactly enjoy having to practice in ninety degree heat for four hours a day. One football player was even heard saying after sessions were over, “Td rather be in a Turkish prison than go through that again! The heat can take its toll on a player, especially if he has to repeat a drill five or six times. That ' s why the most welcome sight at practice is the water fountain. Although summer sessions are not on the athletes ' list of fa vorite summer activities, they all realize that these sessions are necessary if the team is to be prepared for the season.
