IMMWffl Mr. Conn graduated from MHS in 1941, where he was an all around stu- dent active in football, basketball, and track. After high school, he attended the University of New Hampshire. During his senior year at UNH the United States entered World War II and Mr. Conn left to enlist in the military. While in the European theater he met his wife, Jennie, now deceased. At the conclusion of the war, he returned to UNH where he received a BS in biology and a BA in English. Mr. Conn later received an MA in English from Tufts. In 1978, he received a sabbatical to study at the University of London. Mr. Conn has contributed his talents as a teacher of English, French and Reading to Melrose High School students since 1952. In addition to his responsibilities as a teacher Mr. Conn has been heavily involved in extracur- ricular activities. He was the first soccer coach and also coached the football and basketball teams. Mr. Conn advised the Imprint for six years. Mr. Conn says about his career, “When I go to work in the morning I know I’m going to give something and I’m not going to take anything away from anyone” — this is why he loves to teach. He will be greatly missed by students and faculty. We wish him the best of luck in the future! Mrs. Alcorn continued her secretarial Studies at the Chandler School after graduating from Malden High School. Her business career was interrupted to raise her family. She is the mother of two and the proud grandmother of five. Mrs. Alcorn is retiring this year after 16 years of service to the Guidance Depart- ment and many years of service as secretary to the Summer School. How many college applications has Mrs. Alcorn successfully gotten out at the last minute? We cannot say but we do say a sincere thanks for each and every one. We wish her a long and happy retirement. 7

MHIIIS Mr. Driscoll is a graduate of Malden High School, Colby College and the Graduate School of Education at Boston University. Mr. Driscoll first taught in Saco, Maine. He later worked in the public school system of Middleburough, Massachusetts where he was both a guidance counselor and school psychologist. He found he did not enjoy this position because he missed working directly with students. He then came to Melrose, first as the football coach of the offensive backfield and later as teacher of psychology. In later years Mr. Driscoll became the teams’ trainer. In June he will end his thirty-first year of service to Melrose High. Over the years he has become loved by his students and the athletes who affec- tionately call him ’Doc.” His enthusiasm in class and his superb care of athletic injuries will never be forgotten. We wish Doc” the best of luck in the future. You will be missed! Mr. Morse is a graduate of Saugus High School. After graduation, he at- tended Tufts receiving a BA and Ed. M+thirty. He was a sailor in World War II on D.E. 48 and reports I personally defeated Adolf Hitler. In 1949, he began his career in Ashland, New Hampshire where he taught for two years. This was followed by a year at Newton and then he came to Melrose where he has taught for thirty seven years. He has directed the Drama Club as well as the Girls Club and taught guitar for twenty years. Mr. Morse and his wife Frances have three daughters, Ellen, Emily and Sarah and four grandchildren. Mr. Morse said he decided to teach English because I noticed English was not difficult but tedious, I thought I could make it less tedious without skimp- ing. Whether I have succeeded or not you would have to ask of students. Contrary to popular belief Mr. Morse’s favorite poet is not Robert Frost but Percy Shelley. He likes to teach Frost because that poet ' s ideas and philosophy appeal to young people. Mr. Morse has always liked teaching and said “I have always felt being a teacher is a privilege. It has been a privilege to work with young people. It has also been a privilege for us to have known him. We wish you the best of luck. We will miss you! 6
