This yeor ' s blood drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross, was, os always, extremely successful. Thanks ro generous donors, the Red Cross wos able ro help peo- ple in need. Although MH5 students contributed greatly ro this worthy couse, they were for from alone in their efforts. Deon, A Copeland, D Buckley, 5 Smith, S Feinberg, M Guthro, D Dyson, S Donoghue, G, Biblos, S Desmond, Mr Freeman Thruston Frank The 1962-80 Debate season was extremely successful Thanks to some gentle prodding by Cooch Freeman Frank and the officers, the team practiced more dilligenrly than it hod in the past few seasons Although this team did nor go to any ma- jor tournaments, it kept busy debating at local high schools Seniors Dennis Buckley and Sheri Feinberg provided com- petition on the varsity level while the bulk of the ream debored on the intermediate level. Because of this, o large return of experienced debators was expected for the 1983-84 season. The teom shored some memorable experiences in- cluding: Tommy from Lynnfield, the Manchester Connection, Lexington Debotothon, Fruit Logs, the moon buggy, 4 ' 2 (meow), Soyree and oil the generic outfits Everyone hopes for more good rimes and lots of luck in the future. The quiz bowl team, led by Freeman Frank and consisting of ream members Dennis Buckley, Stephen D ' Agostino, Sheri Feinberg, David lacoviello, and Steven Stomotopoulos, mode it oil the way to the semi-finals on the Star Market Quiz Show. During the course of the season, the ream faced and defeated both Swompscott and Sronehom, and in the semi-finals lost a rematch to Sronehom. Many thanks to Mr. Frank for all his help.

Newsline is a gr oup of sfudenrs who ore interested in television broadcasting. With the help of advisor Janice Porolisi, they hove produced a series of news programs for MH5 students. Certainly, however, the highlight of Newsline ' s year was the airing of their show on local cable television, namely Boston ' s Channel 13. Anchorman Rich DiPirro also mode on attempt or a daily morning show. Unfor- tunately, however, after a pro- gram that featured a classical music EXTRAVAGANZA, Newsline Morning disappeared mysteriously from the airways of Melrose High School. This, rhe Student Activities Financial Board, wos actively involved with many important student ac- tivities. At rhe annual meeting, it was decided rhar no further meetings would be necessary to com- plete rhe tasks assigned to this school year. However, during an informal meeting after hours, it was decided to wear silly hats during rhe picture We would like to thank Mr Claude Croston for his guidance and sage advice In an emergency meeting called just before rhe Christmas break, rhe committee was called upon to release $200 to fund rhe Christmas project movie.
