Sincerely, Claude H. Croston, Principal Dear Class of ‘80’: Thank you for allowing me to write a short note expressing my appreciation to you for a job well done. Needless to say, a school is dependent on its senior class to set the tone for its academic and social behavior. Over the past year, the class of ’80 has contributed significantly to the successful operation of the school. This feeling is shared by those who have had the privilege of working with you. It is my hope that your experiences here at Melrose High School will serve you in the future no matter what endeavor you may choose. It would be difficult at this time, to fully assess what you have gained personally over the past three years, but I remain confident that in the future, your decisions and attitudes will reflect the humanitarian philosophy of your school. I wish each of you a productive and satisfying future. You have made many people proud but most of all I feel you have gained the self-esteem and confidence necessary to participate in and make a contribution to the world. Good luck.

MR. EDWARD C. BARRY 1928-1979 “A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence stops.” - Henry Adams To those of us who came under the influence of Mr. Barry, his loss was dearly felt. He was, above all, a man who was committed to the principle that his students always came first. What was best for us took precedence in every decision Mr. Barry made. We probably will never be able to accurately measure what his contributions to us have meant, but we will be forever appreciative of them. It is, therefore, with honor and affection that we, the members of the Class of 1980, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Edward Barry. May his high standards and his devotion to duty serve as an inspiration to those who follow. 3
