ORCHESTRA The orchestra is structured for the extensive study of all styles of classical and modern music repertoire. Emphasis is placed on the development of performing skills at college level, as evidenced by our graduates being accepted into college musical organizations. Continuous annual representation of Melrose students by competitive audition at the M.N.E.A. sponsored Northeast District and Massachusetts All-State Festivals. The Club resembles the set-up of a “Think Tank’’. Members have access to a great many stimulation games that employ strategic decisions!

We’ll never be ready! “Does anyone have a black skirt I can borrow?” We will always remember Mr. Mess’ for everything he gave us and taught us. He was always there when that Mood Indigo struck. “Love is gay? I’m not gonna sing that!” Most of all “Solitude” just “Don’t Mean a Thing” as we look down that “Lonesome Road” to the future because we will have these “Moments to Remember.” 23

The Mountaineering Club focused on three major activities: camping, hiking and rock climbing. Several outings were conducted in the White Mountains with all the peaks of the Southern Presidential Range being reached. Rock climbing was done at Artist’s Bluff in the Franconia Range and also at the Quincy Quarry, a familiar crag in suburban Boston. At all times, high priorities were placed upon safety in wilderness travel, group cooperation and support, and an appreciation for the power and delicacy of the mountain environment. Probably the most popular activity was rock climbing which many of the members took up with great enthusiasm.
