THE GERMAN CLUB THE ITALIAN CLUB The Italian Club is formed by motivated and fun-loving students interested in combining pleasure with learning. Various fund-raising activities, holiday celebrations, dinner parties, films, trips to places of interest, including a very enjoy- able winter evening carolling around Melrose number among our activi- ties. For the immediate future, plans include plenty more fun adventures, including playing bocce and a trip abroad. We wish to congratulate Miss Dominijanni for a successful first year of teaching and as an advisor for the club. Arriverderci! Front Row (L to R) T. Knight Treasurer, M. Petti President, N. The German-American Part- nership Program (GAPP) is the official name of our club and its chief function is the fostering of our biannual student exchange with Hamburg, Germany. This program affords American and German high school students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of English and German in their respective countries and to stimulate their understanding and respect of different life styles, cultures and problems of the partner country. In October 1979, Melrose High School was visited for 4 weeks by 19 German students. In April 1980, 19 Melrose students will go to Ger- many, live for 4 weeks with German families and attend a German school. This is the third exchange between Melrose and Hamburg.

THE FRENCH-SPANISH VOLLEYBALL GAME OR THE SPANISH-FRENCH VOLLEYBALL GAME Marybeth Egan The determined French and the Spanish challengers met in the gym on November 20, 1979, for the second annual French vs Spanish Club Volley- ball Game that would decide this year’s champion. Three weeks before, the two teams had battled each other, only to end in a tie. So with the French defending the title and the Spaniards trying to secure it for the first time, an exciting game could be expected. Both teams played confidently and well. Showing their strength in height, the Spaniards came close to capturing the crucial final game. But the spirited French team played to a decisive victory shutting out the diminished opposition in the end. For the second year in a row, the French Club has asserted its strength. Better luck next year, Spaniards! Calvin Frank Sefior McLean Madame Dooley Kathy Crowther SO Sharon Olsen Kelly Marchant

PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB There was a lot of “shoot- ing” at Melrose High this year. Armed with 35-mm cameras and film, members of the photography club practised their “marksmanship” on anything that stood in their way. They experimented with a wide variety of techniques in using photography as a mode of expression and art. Members concentrated on improving their skills and in developing and printing film in the school’s well-equipped darkroom after school. The more successful members had some of their prints displayed in the Resource Center. Such “exposure” served as an encouragement for more advanced work. First row - Mrs. Marsh, advisor, S. Goodwin, P. Martone, D. Snook, L. Patterson, S. Conners, D. Hatfield. 2nd row - P. Smith, S. Moore. GENESIS Although the major prob- lem of the members of Gene- sis, the schools art and literary magazine, was their own apathy, some of them did have the morale to have a bake sale in the cafetorium, with the hopes of raising money for their two publica- tions this year. (They raised a grand total of twenty-two dollars.) The members, with the help of their advisor, Ms. Plume, assemble a magazine consisting of stories, essays, poetry, artwork and photo- graphy, submitted by talented MHS students. First row - L. Swanstrom, E. Eriksen, L. Marshall, L. Schmidt, R. Smith, R. DeFran za. 2nd row - M. Tillinghast, G. Trifaro, M. Wetherill, C. Brown, L. Wessling, C. Hooton. 3rd row - Mrs. Plume, J. Taylor, S. Goodwin, D. Hatfield, S. Sofia.
