Going out with groups of our friends or that one special friend is a big part of Senior Life. As we look back the most memorable times will be the humorous, sometimes embarrass- ing experiences that are typical of going out. It was the night of the party and she was waiting for her friends to come pick her up. A car stopped in front of her house and started beeping. Almost automatically she ran out and jumped into the car only to discover that the driver was the boyfriend of the girl across the street. She was definitely in the wrong car. Going to the movies was the usual date for them. At intermission he left to get some popcorn and drinks but because there was such a long line in front of the counter he returned to the movie after the lights had been turned off. When he returned to his seat she was sitting with her arms around some other guy. After making his presence known to the couple she jumped up, realizing that she had become so involved in the movie that she hadn ' t seen that the boy next to her was the wrong one. They were at the Junior Prom. He looked so handsome in his white tuxedo and she looked stunning in her gown. Her face turned red when she reached for her water glass and dropped her dessert of strawberries and whipped cream all over his tux. He had been desperately trying to take this certain girl out for the entire schoolyear. Finally she agreed to go out with him the next night. Since she was so special he de- cided to take her to an extremely expensive restaurant where they were seemingly having a great time. He told her she could have whatever sne wanted for dinner, and impre- ssed on her that money was no problem. When he reached for his wallet, an unexpected problem — no money. The evening ended with dad coming to the rescue and a good deal of embarrassment. Of course there was the time that the boys got together and went looking for their friends and their dates at Spot Pond. They thought they were funny when they turned on the car ' s high beams, beeped the horn, and yelled, Where ' s my daughter? They never saw so many people jump so fast in all their lives. 7

Senator Kennedy stresses student involvement in community affairs. A Visitor From The Senate On Tuesday, November 25, 1975, we enjoyed the dis- tinction of having Senator Edward M. Kennedy come to visit us. The three upper classes jammed into the Daffinee Gym to see the Senator, followed by his secret service men. The applause became heavy at his prediction that the football team would defeat Wakefield High in the annual Thanksgiving Day game. During his visit, students presented him with three gifts: a handmade bowl, an M.H.S. diploma and a Melrose ' 76 shirt. For the next ten minutes he spoke to the students, urging them to play an active role in their government as their counterparts in the 1960 ' s had, and cautioning them not to be disillusioned by the events of Watergate. He hoped that students would help solve the major problems contronting the nation and the world. After speaking, he asked the audience questions involving opinions on the economy, drugs and the upcom- ing Presidential election. He then answered prepared questions. As his visit came to a close, the band played a final song and the Senator left with a smile and a wave. How many of you think that the use of pot has increased?
