After graduating from Clark University and receiving his masters degree from Harvard, Mr. Battles taught in Lexing- ton and Medford before coming to Mel- rose High School in 1930 as head of the Math Department. Many of us will remember his math classes in the years to come and will thank him for teach- ing us so well. Mr. Battles has distinguished himself in the service of his country and is re- spected and admired by all who know him. He fought with the 101st Infantry Division in France during World War I and upon his return to Melrose, he was elected to the position of Post Comman- der of the Melrose Legion Post 90. He has also worked diligently with the staff of the Imprint for many years. His welcome help and genuine interest have played an important part in the success of our school newspaper. This dedication can represent only a small portion of the esteem our class holds for Mr. Battles and for his contributions to the fulfillment of our dreams and plans for the future. 5
