THE CLASS HISTORY OF '49 Even though we are seniors now, looking over 12 years and things that happened then seem very clear to us now it seems hardly any time has passed since ohn Black was the hero of Mrs Sands room because he knew the secret of making the biggest and best spitballs of anybody in the whole first grade We ll neser forget how shocked we were at the lose note Mary Lib wrote to Ed Lewis Shirley cap tured the hearts of all the boys wrth her long pig tails and smiling face while ohn Black answered to The Great Loser Dickey joined the pack and charmed Mrs Burling and the girls too fso he thoughtj Most of us are still knocking ourselxes out laughing at Mrs Burlings jokes Various young heroes were sas ing our ln es daily on the Safety p rtrol Gail md Dickey still argue as to which one of them was the better captun Shirley was the ensy of the cunpus bec ruse her boy friend was lck Tilton H1 upper classman Charles Mcforkel really gained himself 1 rep utrtron by going around half the time with a bl ick paste brush on his upper lip imitttmg Hitler incl scissors oser his eyes doing a stomp down good imitltion of President Roosexelt that year im ay rctions invaded good ole E S We ll nexer forget the play Mrs Bices room gaxe when Dickey let out those white mice that got Gall all tmgled up in the yarn and all but forgot her lines or the yuppy oxe le ers that Drcke wroe S rey tl t s e corrected md sent ba k to hnn Witt ill the flower pots ind milk bott es Wallace had cracked on his head its a wonder he cxer got to be a senior remember the time when Pit mosed in and took Ceorge tw ly from K 1 l At this time our Hookey Playing friend C hrrlolte Hayes w s in her prime We sent one min to the no s tha year we retlly felt old md worldly wise wien our fellow classmate Worth Knowles soted The coming of Betty Bruce heralded the opening of the seventh grade and our first step into that wonderful new world Putnam High School We turnel out in full force for the yunlor high dances the girls especially if for no other reason than to gaze at our handsome new teacher Tommy johnson George Ferree our local yokel hot shot yt terbugger was officially given the title Billy Cooke jr The eighth grade found us slavmg our l1ves away in Mrs Compton s English class by that time Anne and Donald were mentioned as one We proudly chose Faye Ray and Billy Baker to receive the American Legion award The ninth grade brought esen greater pros pects to our eager beaser minds we really belonged now We could yell freshies in the school song 1nd rt last be 1 pupil of the fabulous Miss Boyd Well nexcr forget the initiations we suffered t 1 pretty long wilk from Yelungton to Palatka isnt it Rusty Betty md Cooke became a by word and Dicky Duttenhaxer became Mr ean Stafford that wonderful year ended by the girls sersing as the clts being elected is our representatise lNlOst of our tenth grade school time was spent in the bick booths of Moores Cthis of course was before Nlr Beichs trmey 'lhe Latin of -I6 n 47 broke ill records for lTllXll1ll1ll'l Cmagnus a m rcmemb r J no se for this Call Maurice and Donild ire iw irded the good conduct medal By this time Betty ffickley Bruce had hooked not only ny rcun Puffy Murphy but also jack fSllck iton We chose fhtrlre Alford twho was ees tincc to ue the most h indsome boy of our senior classy to e our representatlye at the Prom ' ,I . . c , at ' ' ' ' ' - , , , . i ,' , v X - ' K Q , . u - u 'i - V I I A - T ' V , - , . . . ,, . s 1 C fx v' ' y- y l V . 5 ' . --' g-, 'sk' V . . 4 , ' , ' . . ,' ' .
