VARSITY BASKETBALL The MHS Bulldog basketball team, weary from many mediocre records, concocted the best Melbourne team in years, using a new gym, a new coach, and just plain talent as the main ingredients. The splendid 14-4 showing proved the huge success of a win-deter- mined unit which turned back regular conference thorns as the Winter Park Wild- cats, tourney winners, and the Apopka Blue Darters, third high in the final standings. It was a great first year for Coach Bob Koontz. After several shiftings in court tactics, the Bulldogs enjoyed the most fruitful outcome in the basketball world for seasons. The floor play was exciting, the team play impressive, with such men as Bill Archer, Bill Stroud, Ron Parkey, Arthur Alderman and Eddie Parsons leading the way. The team's most valuable players, Bill Stroud and Bill Archer, both graduating, com- bined their efforts for 536 of Melbourne's 1081 points. Archer led the pack with 311 digits, 17.2 average, while Stroud had 12.5 per game. It was the first step forward for Melbourne basketballers, and truly a hats-offu season. Returning lettermen are: Tom Weber, Bob johannessen, Art QRedj Alderman, Eddie Parsons, Ron Parkey, Gary Maris, and Butch Sedillo.
