HONOR SOCIETY The Melbourne Chapter of the National Honor Society is the first organization of this nature in Melbourne High School. It was started this year by its three charter mem- bers, Mary Jacobus, Bette Brown, and Tom Bass. The purpose of the Honor Society is to encourage scholarship, character, leadership and service. This is accomplished by requiring a certain standard of grades and absolute honesty of all members, and by performing useful services for the school. The Honor Society is fortunate in having such faithful and capable sponsors as Dr. Brown, Mrs. Stanley, Mr. Todd, and Mr. Whitacre.

Third row: Kam McGinnis, Gail Furthman and Virginia Wargelin. UNIOR RED CROSS The Junior Red Cross is the youth organization of the Red Cross. The J. R, C, Youth Council, sponsored by Miss Jane Leaf and Miss Marianne Browning, is the guiding body of the organization and is in charge of all its projects. The council sponsored the membership drive in November, when every high school student joined. They also made tray favors for the hospitals at Key West and Patrick Air Force Base. The main project of the council was the high school chest. 'I'his chest was made by the Industrial Arts Class and was filled by the council, with the money obtained from many projects, This summer, one boy and one girl will be selected to attend the J. R, C. Training Center in North Carolina, to learn about the Junior Red Cross.

FUTURE NURSES The Future Nurses Club is one of the newer organizations around school and in the state of Florida, The club was first started in Melbourne in February of 1955, and this year it has twenty-three members. Their capable and well-liked sponsor is Mrs. A,C. Tedford, member of the Medical Auxiliary and wife of a local physician, , The Future Nurses have completed a course in basic nursing given at the Brevard Hospital.
