The 1955 Melbourne High Bulldogs were the champions of the Orange Belt Conference, won the Brevard County title and the Shrine Bowl game. The team won eight and lost two games in regular season play, and won the Shrine Bowl game 34-20, Offensively the Bulldogs were led by Junior Carl Meyer, and All-Conference quarterback who led the team in scoring and yards gained, Carl was backed up by the dependable, hard running of George Nida, the fullback, who punched out valuable yardage, Barney Corbin and Carl Morin were also standouts at the halfback post. The top two scorers for the Bulldogs were quarterback, Carl Meyer with 60 points and Bill Stroud, end, with 42 points. The team scored a total of 192 points, of which Ted Nida contributed 16 extra points in 25 tries. Defensively the Bulldogs were headed by Ted Nida, Little All-State guard and the follow- ing All-Conference players: Alan Whiting, center, George Nida, fullback, Bill Stroud, end, and Carl Meyer, quarterback. While giving due credit to all outstanding players, let us not forget that it takes eleven men to make a winning team. p
