The Trail Blazer Basketball The Melbeta Eagles invaded the Sun- flower Court December 8, and proved the victor. It was the first conference loss for Sunflower in 55 consecutive conference games. The score was 30-19 in favor of Melbeta. On December 19 the Eagles played their No. 2 conference game at Liberty. Although Melbeta won 38-15 the Pirates have shown vast improvement. On December 22 Minatare came as visi- tors to Melbeta. Although it was an out of conference game there was a large crowd and much excitement. The Eagles won 19-13. January 2 Melbeta played hosts to St. Agnes, and won by a 46-36 score. On January 5 the McGrew Bobcats in- vaded Melbeta but returned home beaten. The score was 53 to 16. On January 11 the Eagles invaded Har- risburg at Harrisburg. Melbeta won by a score of 38-19. January 16 a new team came to Melbeta, that was Mullen, but they were disappoint- ed by a score of 25-12. January 19 Sunflower came to Melbeta and gave the Eagles a scare but Melbeta turned the tide 30-39. January 26 Melbeta went to Bridgeport to the Little Western tournament. They walked away with tourney honors by de- feating Gurley the first round 22-30 and defeated McGrew' in the finals 18-56. February 1 the Eagles went to Sunflow er to the Tri-County tournament and de feated Liberty 39-19 in the second round. February 3, Melbeta travelled to Sun flower again in the Tri-County Tourna 1945 ment, they came home beaten by a strong Harrisburg team by a score of 29-24. February 6 Melbeta travelled to Alliance to play a fast St. Agnes team. They return- ed beaten in a close game by score of 32-30. February 9 Liberty came to Melbeta to be sunk by a score of 41-17. February 15 Melbeta travelled to Mina- tare to scalp the Indians 20-19. February 16 the Eagles went to Mc- Grew, and walked away with a score of 43-17. February 19 Melbeta travelled to Lingle, Wyo., to play a strong Glendo team. They came through in the pvertime period by a score of 26-24. February 22 Harrisburg Wildcats invad- ed the Eagles nest but were clawed away by a score of 31-42. March 1 Melbeta went to McGrew and beat McGrew in the District tournament by a score of 50-21. March 3 the Eagles triumphed over a tough Harrisburg gang to take the district by a score of 20-19. March 10 Melbeta went to Gering to play a state play off against Chadron Prep. They came through by a score of 51-33. On Tuesday March 13 we started for Lincoln in three cars. We stopped over night at Kearney and had a workout fthey had a very fine school and dorm and we boys appreciated the help we received from them.J We arrived at Lincoln the 14th and stayed in the Don L. Love Me- morial Library. On the campus grounds we played Paxton the 15th and were beat- en for our third loss of the season.
