HISTORY lt was IH the vear of our Lord A D nrneteen hundred forty n1ne when seventy two green Freshmen assembled wtth many other students of Mergs County Hlgh School to en roll as h1gh school students Durxng that year we lost ten of our number Those casualues came because other thrngs called louder than school BCIIVIIICS or because the course of study was too hard When the school opened for the 1950 51 schedule the numbers ofthe Wrse Owl Class were ready to enroll The number of Sophomores now stood at ftfty mne We were very happy to welcome Estelle Wyatt from Englewood and Btlly Nelson from Oak Rldge 1nto our Sophomore Class At the end of the year our number decreased to forty nlne Our Junror year rn MC1gS County Hlgh School was fllled w1th many rnterestrng and happy expertences S1x of our group made letters for playtng football and two recerved letters as managers of the football team The basketball teams had many Iumors who were outstandtng performers Laura Sktnner and Kay Netta Morr1son plaved on the grrls team Penny Bosttc Don Creasman B111 Ktncard James Mllloway played stellar roles on the boys basketball squad Bob Ktncard and Edd Lewts were the managers of the boys team Many Jumors took part rn other school 3CI1V1IlCS Our Jumor year was htghllghted by the CXQUISIIC and very fxne Junror Semor Banquet Those who led were our class offrcers Penny Bost1c Presrdent Donald Creasman V1ce Presrdent Della Mae Cartwrrght Sec Jewell W1th graduatton day as our goal, forty students enrolled rn the class of 1953 We looked forward to the f1nal act of successfully completlng our work and recervrng our d1plomas Our class met and elected the followmg class offlcers DONALD CREASMAN Presldent DOLLIE MCHONE Vlce Prestdent KAY NEITA MORRISON Secretary BERNICE HUFF Treasurer JEAN BAGGETT Reporter . : . PRGPHECY OF CLASS OF I953 In the year of our Lord 1973 just twenty years srnce graduatron from Mergs County Hrgh I took a two weeks vacatron I strolled over to the brg MGM Studro before I cought the next arrplane back to my home town of Decatur Tennessee I heard that MGM Studro had a beautrful new star I was rnterested enough to go over to get her autograph and was really surprrzed to frnd that the new star was Lynn Profrtt She sard Jean Baggett IS my make up artrst and does all of my song recordrngs for me Jean can really take care of her job too When I got on the arrplane for home I found that the prlot was none other than B1llyK1n card He told me that Bob Kmcard had completed hrs Engrneerrng Course and had solved an engrneerrng problem thought rmpossrble and he has now become unrversally famous for hrs work ln my conversat1on wrth Brlly I learned that James Mrllaway had been an All Star Foot ball Player for a Professronal Team I also learned that Gene Grrssom was an agrrculture teacher at the Umversrty of Tennessee The Brg Top Crrcus IS now managed by Roy Lee Nance one of our Crrcus Clowns at school After I arrived 1n Decatur I thought I d go and see what Edwlna Dake known to us as Orchestra and her husband T F Dake was the conductor I vsent to see Joyce Peace Nelson she and Brlly were happrly marned two years after graduatron and now are proud parents of 3 chrldren She sard Betty Lankford and Dudley Edgemon had frnally m med after a long off and on courtshrp They now own therr own busrness Dudley s Market We then drove down to see the two bachelors of ourclass Edd Lewrs and Charles Melton They are co owners of the M 84 L chrcken ranch They told me Penny BOSIIC rs therr leadrng lawyer and Donald Creasman 1S therr doctor Both marrred former Mergs Htgh School Graduates Herman Creasman rs a mrmster and pastor of a church 1n Knoxvrlle Joe Paul Buchanan has followed a mrlrtary career srnce he graduated from West Pornt He IS now rankrng as a general of the Army Lankford Monroe and Leon Wrrght went to the Korean battle front and now wear medals for bravery Both lrve near Decatur and are good farmers ' The State Champxon Grrls Basketball team thrs year was coached by Kay Nerta Morrrson She IS Sllll just a School Marm and strll free Nellre Woods IS a regrstered Nurse at John Hopkrns Hosprtal Edwina Legg, was doing, Her mother told me she was pianist for the All Anuetiean
