After many years in the business world, he came to Mehlville School District in September of 1966 and taught in the Business Education Department for one year. In 1967 he was named C.O.E. supervisor, a position he holds through the present day. He was the originator of the Employer-Employee Banquet. The Coalition Committee for Progress is an organization of senior leaders concerned with the well-being of Mehlville Senior High School. Student Council originated, this group acted as a liason between Mehlville ' s student body and the Board of Education. Their first meeting resulted in bench- es for the smoking area, the painting project, fans for the classrooms (next year), parking in the quadrangle, and an an- nual meeting each year to pro- vide students an opportunity to air their views. Most time and effort went into working for the passage of the 1972 Bond Issue by attending Kaffee Klatches and canvassing the district. Their appli- cations are reviewed by a committee of teachers under the guidelines that leader- ship counts 25° o, character 25%, and scholarship 50° ' o. New members are not notified until the day of the banquet and initiation ceremony in March. Nat ional Honor Society ' s main projects are 1) a canned good drive to aid needy families in the area and 2) a toy drive to make Christ- mas merrier for many children. This year ' s Scholar Quiz team met with unfortunate scheduling that pitted us against the team that went all the way this year in our first meet. The team, as individ- uals and as a whole, performed well, whereas our opponent relied heavily on their team captain. Team members are chosen for their memory recall and quickness to react to questions asked. The members and alter- nates practiced after school to lessen their reaction time in preparation for the meet. The Scholar Quiz met with general apathy this year, whereas, Scholar Quiz should be regarded as another team representing Mehlville in city-wide competition. This year ' s captain was Steve Pisoni, and the alternates were Debra Snyder and Bill Kountzman. Our sponsor, Mrs. Gorsuch, was back for her second year. The Mehlville Varsity Lettermans Club is a service organization. Any boy who has received a Varsity letter is eligible to join the club. There is an initiation for all new members which lasts three days. Then there is a dinner for all new members who join the club after initiation. The Varsity Club this year contrib- uted$110.00 for Herman Davis, a boy who was paralyzed while playing football for a local high school. We also were co-chairman for the Spirit Dance held each year. We sponsored the KXOX All-Stars and the American Showcase, a rock group to raise mon- ey for our scholarship fund. This year we planned on painting the boy ' s locker room, helping on the 1973 Bond Issue, and working along with the Pep Club, Memories of . . . Working Together Pep Club ' s purpose is to promote spirit among the boy ' s sports. Most members attend all the games to work with the cheerleaders for the purpose of SPIRIT. This year we have had a surprise Pep Assembly for the football players along with Fathers Club, Pep Band, Varsity Club, Cheerleaders, and performing groups. Plans were also made for one to be held in honor of the spring sports. We held the Annual Spirit Dance. The Spirit queen and king were Peggy Lenzen and Ron Thill. The main objectives of Key Club are service to the school and community and the development of a more intelli- gent, aggressive, and servicable citizenry. This year ' s Key Club is the largest in recent history. The increase in mem- bership has enabled Key Club to carry its objectives even further than has been possible in the past. Some of the projects that have bene- fitted Mehlville are the purchase of trash recepticals, the support of, and work for, the Bond Issue, and the clean-up of litter on the campus. In Service of the Community, the Key Club has helped collect money for Muscular Dystrophy, the Salvation Army, and the March of Dimes. Key Club donated $150.00 to the Jerry Lewis Telethon for M.D. We helped KETC-TV in their recent drive for membership by answering telephones and buying a membership for the club. On the social side. Key Club honors the Girl of the Month, an outstand- ing girl chosen from those at Mehlville, by treating her to dinner. Finally, Key Club promotes scholar- ship by offering scholarships to deserv- ing members of Key Club. The purpose of G.A.A. is to promote interest in girl ' s athletics. Many activi- ties were carried out this year; among them were a car wash, bake sale, deco- rating a homecoming car, the annual banquet, secret pals for girls, and at- tending a Bilikens hockey game. You don ' t have to take Ger- man to join, just enjoy Ger- man traditions. Meetings are held twice a month, with a sample of German food about once a month. Past activities are relived, while future plans are being planned. Occasionally club members are brought onto the dancing floor to learn a German folk dance or two. For those who are not in the dancing mood, there are many German songs to be sung. The activities this year included the annual German Christmas Banquet, a part in the International dinner, plus ice-skating, a picnic, and plans for summer get- togethers. For our annual service project we sold smile candles for the benefit of Muscular Dystrophy. Collins, Colorado. In the next year, the Mehlville hud- dle plans to start a new huddle. It will be at Oakville Senior High School. The FTA provides two principle needs of those stu- dents who feel they may want to become teachers. First, the club meetings are devoted to learning about new teaching methods and techniques, problems in dif- ferent types of teaching situ- ations, and the teacher as a professional. Secondly, the club offers its members a chance to cadet teach in the elementary schools in the district two afternoons after school each week. Smiles, tears, frowns, and laughter; A diary of faces and words. Bound with leather and thread to last a lifetime. Reach out to the sun and remember . . After having spent one year of your life on one super-spectacular experience and then have to write down all your innermost feelings and most intimate thoughts on an 8y2 x 11 piece of paper, is a task to be attempted by only the very strong. How do you write about one year of your life that will be bound in a book and distributed to strangers whom you will never see again? All the hours of endless arguing and tears and scrambling and digging and hysterical laughter now seem to fade away leaving only slightly worn, very tired, people. Perhaps what will remain the brightest are the experiences of working with people and trying to understand why? We are in the business of re-creating our memories to be bought and sold. Only you can make them your memories, to love and cherish. We hope we ' ve captured only the very bright- est and happiest for you . . , Lynn Jablonski — Belinda McCioud What yearbook would be complete without a roll-call of thank-you ' s, and ours is no exception.
