Bun Voyage As the sh1p slowly leaves port a melancholy sadness that IS typ1cal of every partlng settles wlth the tw1l1ght of the fad1ng school year A sh1p fllled w1th expectant passengers slowly l1fts tts anchor and dr1fts gracefully out to sea The f1fty two passengers look forward to the1r voyage 1nto the unknown world wlth as much ant1c1pat1on as they showed four years ago when they embarked on a shorter voyage to the h1gh school world As freshmen these 1951 sen1ors already had fa1th ln themselves The class hurrred through 11S freshman year g1v1ng the Coronatton Dance of 1947 and taktng a class trrp to Washtngton State Park When they returned the next year as sophomores ldeas of b1g thmgs began to form 1n the1r mmds After presenttng the1r frrst annual Sad1e Hawkms Dance and other Salem State Park Presenttng the Sllver Anntversary Iuntor Senlor Prom was the htghhghted event of the Jun1or year It was f1tt1ng that such an energet1c class should mark the 25th year of the1r school wxth a gala 1ub1lee celebratron The second annual Sad1e Hawkms Dance and another tr1p to Washtngton State Park were mcluded 1n the actxvxttes of thls versatlle class Tlus year the class of 1951 re convened w1th the same vlgor wtth whlch they left For the th1rd consecutrve year Mr Gayle Stmmons and Mrs Helen Barrett were chosen to gu1de the class on the last leg of 1lS Journey The year s events were planned 1n order to earn money for the class tnp to the nat1on s caprtal at Wash mqton D C The th1rd annual Sadle Hawklns Dance was presented a bake sale was held Chrrstmas Cards were sold the 1951 Corona t1on Dance was sponsored and a pte supper was glven The senlors were honored w1th a prom glven by the Junlors Graduatlon came and the d1plomas were awarded The emptlness 1n the hearts of the grads was only partrally relteved by the thoughts of the ten glor1ous days ahead Fare wells w1ll be spoken and the young men and women w1ll be on the1r way not only to Wash1ngton but also toward l1fe s new goals beyond the classroom H Luft to right Lderlc 'llr Szmmons Un Ifarnlt fumsleg Mum I1 D1 ers Page Thzrtcen dances, the year was closed by a trip to New - - I 43 - ' : 7 , . .
