enior Had one been present four years ago in the early days of September he might have wit- nessed an event due to reshape the future Yes, it was only another freshman class but one marked by singular purposefulness and en thusiasm With hopes fixed upon the summits of untried ideas and untrodden ground said frosh were careful to choose capable leaders Mr William Schmidt and Mrs Dorothy Cham bers were chosen as sponsors along with an equally efficient staff of officers It was during this first year that the desire to be different was formed As evidence they planned some thing new in the idea of senior trips a V1S1t to the nation s capital Although three years away from this objective it was resolved to aim all money making activities toward th1s goal A Valentine Dance was the culmination of the efforts of this first year s work When the class of 1950 re convened the following year Mr Schmidt and Mrs Martha Freeman were elected sponsors Th1s year too proved prosperous for the class which present ed a Homecoming Dance proving to be a huge success Climaxmg the years activities was a trip to Jefferson City Even then however the earnestness of the class would not let them rest Over the summer conslderable pecunia was collected from summer projects in which all members earned money through their own efforts rjskaiorg As returning juniors, the class of '50 again prepared for big things. Among the features of that year were the Halloween Dance and the Junior Senior Prom at which time the lowly gym became a province of mystic Arabia and Scheherazade ruled The sponsors of the previous year Mr Schmidt and Mrs Freeman, helped bring another successful year to a close with a trip to Hannibal Mo home of Mark Twain The members of the class parted com pany happy 1n the knowledge that they would return as dignified seniors And return they did with eager minds and a will to make their final Journey through high school a memorable one To fulfill this obyec tive Mr Schmidt and Mrs Mary Leonard were chosen as sponsors Bake sales Christmas card orders and a D C Dance helped fill the class coffers for the long awaited Washington trip As befitting their station the seniors were honored by the Juniors at the annual Prom At last diplomas in hand the graduates boarded the buses Washington bound The many members of the Class of 1950 have contributed freely of their talents to Mehlvllle High School Athletes musicians actors and well rounded school citizens have all assisted in making this class one of the most progressive m the history of Mehlville q-nn M35 l...a....
