Cross, graduate of Jefferson City High School and Junior College. Central Missouri State Col- lege and the University of Iowa. From the latter he holds a masterfs degree in health and physical educa- tion. As a student, Coach Cross developed a zeal and physical skill for athletics that have proved invaluable in his work, and have made him a great lover of com- petitive sports. He has coached with great success at Warsaw, Mo., and Simonsen High Cin Jefferson Cityb. He did an army hitch in the South Pacific, and served as superintendent of the Missouri Intermediate Reformatory before coming to Mehlville. At leisure, he enjoys reading sports. talking sports. fly fishing or chores on the farm. 1 Ctlflflkg WM. CNW! Say it with music is the motto of Mehlville's music teacher, Mrs. Rosalie Cleland, who comes here after graduating from the University of South Dakota in 1949. She holds the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. While in college, she was a mem- ber of Mu Phi Epsilon, honor society for music students. At Mehlville, she is freshman co-spon- sor and director of all musical activities. Interrogated concerning her avocation, she replied, My husband is my hobby. Ad- ditional questioning divulged that she en- joys reading and practicing on the piano. Wyr. 3cAmiz!f Senior member of the High School teaching staff is Mr. William Schmidt, in- structor of English and German. After at- tending St. Louis Public Schools, he grad- uated from Culver-Stockton College with an A.B. Degree. He first taught at Mehl- ville in 1941 and has been here ever since, except for a 45-month hitch in the Army Medical Corps. Among his extra-curricu- lar duties are sponsor of the senior class, director of the oratorical contest, and ad- visor to the Kleig Klub. He enjoys the theater, conversation, and his pipe. mr. llffjoocli From Diamond, Mo. comes Mr. O. W. Woods, Mehlvillefs wizard of the science lab. When not absorbed with his test tubes, Mr. Woods serves as faculty advisor to the Board of Councilors and co-sponsor of the sophomore class. At Washington University he earned a bachelor's degree in both arts and com- merce. In 1941 he did post graduate work at Oklahoma A. and M. In the classics, Charles Dickens is his favorite, while in sports his pet is golf. When asked what he hoped the future held, he said he wants a 50-acre farm on which to raise prize plants and fruit. 771. Qlnffg With a drawing board as his desk and saws and drills as his tools. Mr. Ralph Gentry sets out each morning to teach his pupils the elements of industrial arts and crafts. Mr. Gentry earned B. S. and A. B. degrees from Southeast Missouri State College and Missouri Univer- sity, respectively. Recently he has gone north to the University of Minnesota to do graduate work. He is serving his third year as faculty advisor for the Board of Councilors. During his leisure moments you will find him out in the Helds shooting quail or standing knee deep in the rivers, fishing.
