Notice should be taken of the spunk of the class in general. Last spring each member of the class was given fifty cents to be invested and increased by Odd jobs during the sum- mer. Although the class's enrollment has de- creased from 77 to 57, the juniors of 1948-49 have been well represented in the activities Of Mehlville High School. Some credit for such a proud past is undoubtedly due to wise choice of spon sors and ofHcers who were willing to strive to ward perfection in class activities. This year the juniors re-elected Johnny Westhouse for his second term as president, Dick Moersch as vice-president, Betty Sneed as secretary, Mar- ilyn Altenbernd as treasurer, and Bill Alten- bernd as Council representative The sponsors of the previous year, Mr William Schmidt and Mrs Martha Freeman, were again chosen As timid Freshmen the class presented its first contribution to Mehlville social life a Val entine s Dance That year they also established the precedent of an annual spring excursion by visiting Springfield, Ill., and the reconstructed village at New Salem State Park.
