In the fall of 1940 seventy five perplexed but resolute pages wandered meekly through the portals of Mehlvllle Castle of Learmng Although the path was steep and rocky w1th the eternal optlmlsm of freshmen they came sm1l1ng through To lead them on thelr 1n1t1al trek they elected the follow1ng ofllcers presl dent Bob Alexander v1ce presldent Glenn Erb, secretary Janet Stemmetz and treasurer Frances Baker Undel the ever watchful eye of Mrs Esther Fowler the class sponsor these green and gulhble creatures gave a Backward Dance whlch proved to be an overwhelmlng success As one trlumph followed another their next project a beneF show glven 1n co opexatlon wlth a nelghborhood theater also showed fav orable results Returnlng the following year as full fledged squlres they had adopted an a1r of confidence and self rellance So lntent were they 1n grow lng up that they sponsored the Coronatlon, a very lmpresslve and elaborate affalr Thls memorable occaslon was especially s1gn1flcant to the squlres, because Glenn Erb was crowned Reflector King of 1947 Taklng command were such capables as pres1dent, Ray Hanbeck, v1ce presldent, Peyton Jenness, secretary, Janet Stelnmetz, and treasurer, Lou1se Llndel DOROTHY JEAN SNYDER 4 S Ft 4 glxl DORIS HAGEMAN N K C 5, KI Xlclll H3 N St fl HISTORY A year later found them back agaln step plng w1th their best foot forward for they had advanced enough to obtaln the tltle of bach elors To prepare for the busy year ahead they carefully elected the following officers presldent Ray Hanbeck vice presldent Peyton Jenness secretary Sue Frank and treasurer Dorothy Burghart Servmg as sponsors were MISS Dorothy Wlll1afHSOD and Mrs Mary Leonard They sponsored such successful func tlons as the Amateur Show the Tom Brene man Show and the Chrlstmas Dance How ever the most slgnlflcant event of the season was the Jumor Senxor Prom and Banquet the object of the above money making schemes The pomp and splendor of th1s occaslon was created by troplcal palms and exotlc flowers IH keeplng wlth the Hawauan theme Forty three eager appllcants for knlghthood returned to Mehlvllle Manor last September The re electlon of M1ss Wllllamson and Mrs Leonard as sponsors vlrtually assured success Thelr first venture as sen1ors was the presenta t1on of the Harvest Hop whlch was pro nounced a success by all who attended A later contrxbutlon to Mehlvllle s soc1al l1fe fand the class treasuryj was the Snow Ball, glven ln January The sands were swlftly runnlng out the zero hour was near that hour when the fam1l1ar stralns of Pomp and C1rcumstance w1ll carry this semor class of '49 toward the royal pedestal where they w1ll recelve the order of kmghthood M1111 Sz 1 tcm l l'm' IMF In lu' u ymml .vlwmgl lx juxf lilu' falling: aff rl Ivy. SENIGR PROPHECY I was flashing through space by rocket ship in this dazzling new world of 1970, taking a sentimental journey back to Mehlville. When I asked the time of our arrival, you can imagine the shock I received when Pilot Lorraine Spear, the girl who was so interested in the airplane fad, turned and said that we would land in a few minutes. When I set my feet on my native soil, I was confronted by a character in overalls who was refueling the air vehicle. Why, June Franke, I wouldn't have known you! I said. It seems that June gave up her business career and became interested in Shell products While we were talking a queer fellow in purple satin knee breeches offered to take my bags to a taxi He was such an odd looking creature that I remarked about it June explained that it was none other than Leroy Flamm model for fam ous fashion designer Lois Grassmger and guinea pig to her whims As I stepped down into the luxurious Speed mobile, a new Jet propelled car invented by Raymond Johnson, the driver said Where to lady?
