C9010 'zomore gftstory SHELLBACKS We all remember September 3 1946 when we started our hlgh school career as freshmen We are proud to say we were the largest class ever to enroll as freshmen at Mehlv1lle H1gh School We were pleased to have Mrs Chambers and Mr Schm1dt as our sponsors Our officers were D1ck Mo rsch presldent Myrtle Kuntz VICE pres1dent Mar1lyn Altenbernd secretary Lina W1ll1ams treasurer Blll Nelson klng and Llna W1l11ams queen DIXIE Lee Hogan and B1ll Altenbernd were chosen to represent the freshmen on the student counc1l Our contr1but1on to the soc1al l1fe of the school was a successful St Valent1ne s Dance g1ven on February 15 1947 We started our second year of h1gh school w1th slxty four sophomores Mrs Rutter and Mr Schmldt were selected as our sponsors When Mrs Ruttel reslgned at the end of the first semester the class chose Mrs Freeman as co sponsor Johnny Westhause was elected class pres1dent Nancy Moss v1ce presldent Dor1s Alex ander secretary and Ellen Ann Muehl hauser treasurer Laverne Kassebaum candldate for Reflector queen and Dxck Moersch candldate for Reflector kmg Blll Altenbernd IS the only sophomore on the varslty basketball team wh1le I Ralph M1ller Harold Heltz Cary Thomp son Johnny Westhause Jack Meler Bob F abry Bob Hartmann Bob Glaeser Jack OKeefe and Roger Holden are all stars of the Mehlv1lle B team We are proud to have such a greatly 1ncreased representa t1on 1n athletlcs The sophomore g1rls were also well represented 1n athlet1c act1v1t1es Joyce Delaney Sh1rley Beck Jamce OS1eCkl T1Sh Porter LaVerne Nlemeyer Jane J erashen and Dor1s Alexander were outstand1ng on the Mehlv1lle B Volleyball team Thls year the sophomore class gave one of the greatest events 1n the h1storv of Mehlv1lle H1gh School We sponsored the we played host to many of the a1umn1 As freshmen we establlshed a pohcy of taklng a class tr1p near the end of the school year That year we went to Spr1ng field Ill1no1s and Old Salem State Park at Petersburg Ill1no1s In keeplng w1th the trad1t1on we are golng to take a class tr1p to J efferson Cxty th1s year We are str1v1ng to be an outstandlng class 1n Mehlv1lle H1gh 1n the hopes of learn1ng how to become better C1tlZ911S ln our commun1ty To th1s end we ded1cate ourselves N 9 I 7 U 1 - 7 7 7 7 ' 7 7 7 I 1 7 Q . . . - . . . . . a 9 : ' Z , Q , , 7 7 . 7 7 7 7 3 , - l y . 7 ' 7 1 ' Homecoming Dance on February 14. when , .
