amor dqzstory BUCCANEERS First Crulse In the fall of 1943 seventy five bewildered but determlned pollywogs set out 1n Wonder ment aboard the S S Mehlvllle on what was to be thelr first LFUISE Being unfam1l1ar with the ship we had to learn the ropes the hard way Our fraternal mates the seniors never ialled to extend a friendly hand in time of need fNote Any relatlon between the precedlng statement and the truth IS purely comcldental J A little green 1n our manner we gave a Back ward Dance which proved quite a success under the guidance of Mrs Fowler and our class officers who were Bob Alexander pres1 dent Glenn Erb VICE presxdent June Franke secretry and Francls Baker treasurer Although a little rough at tunes it proved to be an enjoyable and adventuresome crulse for all Second Cruise A year later found us back agaln ready to board the now fam1l1ar ship for our second cruise Having by this time acqulred our sea legs we settled down to study vxith renewed vigor anxlous to prove ourselves worthy of our pos1t1on as shellbacks We accomplished much through the efforts of our capable sponsor Mr Orland Woods and under the leadershlp of the following officers Ray Hanbeck president Peyton Jenness v1ce president Janet Stein metz secretary LOUISE Llndel treasurer Dor othy Burghart queen and Peyton J enness klng The council representatlves were June Franke and Glenn Erb It was under this lead ershlp that we sponsored the COTOHat10H whlch was a very impressive and elaborate HHHII' Glenn Erb brought much renown to our class that year when he was crowned Reflector Klng of 1947 In action on the basketball court you would have seen such sophomores as Alexander Erb Stlebel Belknap Baldw1n Hicks and Kllnk hardt playing thelr usual v1gorous game Aware of the many experiences we missed as pollywogs we felt very confident in the fact that we had a complete and successful year In Th1rd Cruise An elated crew of fifty one hale and hearty Juniors returned this year eager to hoist the shlps anchor and shove off on their third cruise All were aware of the tremendous task ahead We were now the dauntless bucca neers and intended to have our presence felt by all that IS exceptlng the fearless old salts At the helm to pilot our merry crew are Ray Hanbeck presldent Peyton Jenness vice president Sue Frank secretary Dorothy Burg hart treasurer Martha Hagemann queen and Alf Cederqulst kmg To help keep the shlp on an even keel we sent Peyton J enness as our representatlve to the Board of Councllors The mates representlng us on the coveted A Team were qulte a crew congratulations go to the followmg for their yoeman l1ke work on the hardwood floor Erb Stlebel Alexander Baldw1n Belknap Hicks Cederquist and Mild It seems we JUHIOTS were constantly on the move Always one for talent we gave as our first entertamment the Amateur Show which was enjoyable as well as profitable Find mg time for a l1ttle relaxation we opposed the seniors ln a rip 1oar1ng football game wallop 1ng them 13 0 Possessmg the true yuletlde spirit we next gave a Christmas Dance for whlch the gym was decorated 1n a most novel way Not to be stopped by th1s we dec1ded to finish our l1st of entertalnments by presentlng a Tom Breneman Show which proved to be a howling success tickling many a funny bone with 1ts Sllly antics and fantastlc hats The pur pose of all these 8Ct1V1t1eS was to finance the Junior Senior Banquet The theme bemg Hawauan lt was most exquisite 1n all of 1ts pomp and splendor highlightmg a most event ful year The crew was greatly alded by the co lead ershlp of our two 1ndustr1ous and resourceful sponsors Miss Willlamson and Mrs Leonard who d1d practically everything except scrub the deck With the real1zat1on that the crulse IS near 1tS end we are informed by our navlgator in the crow s nest that 1n the not too dlstant fu ture we shall be setting sail on smooth and navigable waters toward a much brighter and broader horizon where we as seniors will be the Pride of the S S Mehlville .
