me Y .WB A SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Although we hadn't wanted it to come, the war with Russia had really taken place. Of course, the U.S. was victorious: after two and a half years of hard battle, the Russians were put in their place. As an Army nurse, Lt. Patsy Mills had done very well. She was surely looking forward to getting back to the good old U.S. Remembering she had a letter from her best friend, Iuanelle, she began to read: December 21,1958 Megargel, Texas My dearest Pat, Received your most welcome letter today from Moscow. We are all very proud of you. Speaking of being proud of people, I am most proud of our old class. Did you know that Charlene Snodgrass has sold more war bonds than any other movie actress in Hollywood? After Don Nichols graduated from West Point and married Ann Bolin, they made their home in Washington. I wondered about Don's becoming Secretary of State until I found that the President was his uncle. Being patriotic, Bill Hughes left his position as football coach at SMU to enlist in the Marines. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty. He was in line getting a shot when he fainted, but I think he deserves it, don't you? Dr. Albert Nix hasn't received any medals. You know these civilians doctors never do. He's still practicing here in Megargel and has saved more animals than any other veterinarian. Lt. Bill Gilmore is on his way home from overseas. Mildred Sumbera is helping Arthur Murray teach the rhumba in his New York studios. She is recuperating from a sprainedback. She spr- ained it trying to get a seat on the subway, not from the rhumba. Am sending' you a picture from the Life magazine advertising Toni Home Permanents-you know-which is the Toni Twin? It's Lillie and Mildred Marik. They're not twins and don't use Toni. That company ought to be sued. I was so tired the other night I decided to eat at the swanky Barfield Cafe. Frances has a chain of cafes over the U.S. During the war she remodeled her cafes in San Francisco and Chicago into the USO Clubs. They've completed the Andrew Carnegie Library here. It's going to have a mural by Lorene Clark of Paris. Dorothy Fails is chief librarian. The old Ann Branson was over to see me the other day. She had just received a cablegram from her husband saying, Arn aboard U.S.S.A Oklahoma on way home. Anxious to see twins' first teeth. Frances-used to be Cuba-and her husband were in my music studio. Seems they want Joe Pat, Jr. to take music lessons. My most talented music student is the daughter of Dorothy-used to be Simek. She married that boy from Seymour and they own about half of Archer County. Mary King is Megargel's telephone operator. That's where I get most of my gossip. Love, Juanelle With this the letter fell slowly to the floor. Patsy had fallen asleep with a smile on her face and pictures of her home town and classmates in her dreams.
