crew we moved qulte often to varlous locatlons 1n Loulslana MISSISSIPPI and N E Texas After about three years wlth Texaco I became Party Chlef of our selsmograph crew and we were located at Mt Pleasant rn N E Texas when I was called mto the Army 1n early 1942 My flrst asslgnment 1n the Army was at Camp Callan ln Southern Cahforma Durlng the next four years I travel ed back and forth across the Umted States From Camp Callan we moved to Ralelgh North Carolma to Camp Stewart Georgla to Orlando Florlda to Long Island New York to Columbla South Carolma to El Paso Texas back to Gamsvxlle Florlda and I was fmally relleved from mllttary servlce wxth the rank of Lleutenant Colonel 1n 1946 Whlle 1n Orlando Florlda our one chlld a daughter named Dene was born on February 18 1944 Upon leaving the Army I lmmedlately went back to work wrth Texaco as a Party Chlef ln the Panhandle area of Texas In 1950 Texaco moved me to Ft Worth where I was made Supervlsor of our selsmograph operatlons ln West Texas New Mexxco Colorado Kansas and part of Oklahoma promoted to Ch1ef Geophyslclst and 1n that Job had respons1b1l1ty for Texaco s geophyslcal operatlons ln the Unlted States and Canada In 1960 I was made Manager of our West Coast exploratlon and produc mg operatnons whrch lncluded Alaska My headquarters was m Los Angeles ln 1970 I was promoted to Asslstant to the Semor Vlce Presrdent 1n Los Angeles and had varlous respons1b1l1t1es m our EXCCUIIVC Department unt1l my retlre ment m early 1976 after 42 years wlth Texaco In 1972 we moved to the suburban c1ty of West Covma whlch IS about 20 mules east of downtown Los Angeles After retlrement I jolned the Covma Llons Club and have been qulte HCIIVQ 1n that as well as tn church act1v1t1es My most avld hobby IS playlng golf The greatest dxsaster happened to me when I lost my wonderful wrfe Claudean ln early January of 1988 after belng together for nearly 53 years I contmue to llve at 2605 Evergreen Avenue tn West Covma Callforma and am fortunate to have my daughter son 1n law and granddaughter l1v1ng wlth me at thrs t1me I also have a grandson who rs ln the A1r Force and presently located at Dyess A1r Force Base ln Abllene, Texas 9 7 9 , . . . . , . - , . - , . H. F. HARMEL, JR. I was born in Megargel, Texas on August 6, 1911. I lived in Megargel until I graduated from school in 1929. I went to business school in Wichita Falls in the fall of 1929. In 1931 I took a bookkeeping job with Auto Spring 84 Supply Co and stayed there until 1935 when I moved to Oklahoma City and worked for Armour 8z Co until January 1936 I moved to Vernon Texas in 1936 and put in a Parts store which I ran for two years In January 1938 I moved to Seymour Texas and went into the wholesale gas and oil business where I stayed until December 30 1988 I still l1ve1n Seymour but I am retired at this time In 1934 I married Maurme Bradburn in Wichita Falls and we raised two sons who married and each have one son and one daughter giving us four grandchildren at this time TURNER L KUNKEL I was one of ten children born to Fred W and Mattie Kunkel on our farm about seven miles northeast of Megargel Texas Birthdate September 20 1911 I was named after Turner Lee Anderson our rancher neighbor on the south side of our farm The first two or three years of my school days were at the old Eureka school about three miles west of our farm In about 1920 my family moved to Megargel where my dad built a flour mill and was in that business for quite a number of years until he retired The rest of my school days through high in high school I was quite active in football basketball and tennis I was also a member of our high school band which was directed by Tom McCarty who was to become my future brother in law After graduating from high school I was very fortunate to be able to go to Texas A 8L M where I graduated in 1933 with a B S Degree in Electrical Engineering Since I was in the ROTC at A 8: M I became a 2nd Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Reserve upon graduation Those were the depression days and Jobs were not easy to get at that time I worked with my dad at the flour mill for several months until getting a Job with Texaco in their Geophysical Division in February of 1934 The next several years of my working career with Texaco were on a seismograph crew in south Louisiana In 1935 I married Claudean McCarty and our first home together was in Morgan City Louisiana Being on a seismic school were in Megargel, where I graduated from high school in 1929. BAXTER CLEBURNE RUE Baxter Cleburne Rue was born May 29 1910 at Krum Texas to Peter Ray and Pearl Jane Rue He attended school at Krum At age 11 years moved to Denton At age 13 he moved to Young County Olney area Baxter f1n1shed hlgh school rn Megargel rn 1929 He was engaged 1n football basketball and track Due to the depresslon Baxter was unable to attend college He engaged ln odd jobs such as farmrng constructlon and o1l freld Baxter marrled Clara Mae Drpprey March 26 1933 He bought land began ln agriculture and ranchrng wrth o1l productlon They have flve chlldren Joyce Rue Green Cleo Rue Rogers Ray Rue Lubbock Kenneth Rue Albuquerque New Mexxco and Carroll Rue New York They have eleven grandchlldren and erght great grandchrldren Baxter retlred ID 1983 Hls present address IS 1116 West Payne Olney Texas Telephone 564 2280 My grandparents came to Texas from Germany about 1880 and settled rn Central Texas My parents were Gus and Alwrna Symank They were born 1n Texas and were farmers I was born 1n Coryell C1ty Texas on October 28 1908 My first school was a German Lutheran Church School 1n Coryell C1ty We moved to Megargel ln Archer County 1n January of 1918 and farmed north of there I was nme years old and couldn t speak very well you mlght say I learned to speak and read at the same trme The teacher helped me a lot to catch up w1th my language problems and studles I thmk the teacher s name was M1ss Hodges After graduatlon I worked wherever I could work 1n cafes and 1n homes I worked rn Megargel Olney Jacksboro and Altus Ok ln cafes before 1 marrred Jay V Taylor 1n 1940 at Tyler Texas He worked the o11f1eld and he had two teenage sons They both went to school ln Megargel Loyd was kllled Oct 24 1944 He was m the Navy and on the shlp Blrmmgham at the tlme the Prmceton was hlt Jay and I went to Orange, Texas 1n 1942 and worked for Contmental Shlp yard unt1l 1945 We couldn t get the boys enrolled rn school there because they were so overcrowded so Mother and Dad kept them for us so they could FREEDA SYMANK HUGHBAN KS
