It was tough sleddmg after our son graduated from TC U He was 1n R OTC w h1le rn college and was commrssroned as a 2nd Lreutenant ln the Army upon graduatron He had two years mlhtary duty one ln the U S and one rn Vletnam After hrs return he became an actrve partner rn the busrness and we began Worth John our son IS marrled has a lovely wlfe a teenage daughter and a n1ne year old son He has a very mce home ln Fort Worth John IS now presldent of Cockrell Prrntmg and dolng a wonderful job I am a Mason and a charter member of South Hllls Lodge 1389 I am a Shrmer and a hte member of Moslah Motor Corps a past presrdent ot my Lrons Club past presldent of the Prrntmg lndustry ot North Texas and now presldent of my Sunday School class for the second trme I am now semr retrred I go down to the shop when l want to My wrfe and I spend a lot ot t1me travelmg tryrng to see some of thrs world When that rs done, we come back to Megargel and on out to our barn house on the farm near Westover rlght back where th1s hfe started We enjoy every mmute of 1t l . . 9 C T 1 . . - . CLEAT COCKRELL Born August 6 1911 at a farm house at Westover Texas Started to school at age s1x at the new school butldmg 1n Westover I walked a m1le to school down a d1rt road 1n all kmds of weather ram sleet ICC and snow along w1th pretty sun shlney days After f1n1sh1ng the 9th grade I transferred to Megargel To get to school l walked one and a half m1les across Mr Rrchardson s pasture to catch the school bus dr1ven by Mr Hampton We had about a ten mlle route on muddy roads before we reached the school house I was one of the graduatmg class of 1929 In September of 1929 I went to W1Ch1la Falls and entered Draughons Buslness College After f1n1sh1ng college I got a Job as bookkeeper wlth the Graham M111 84 Elevator ln Graham After workmg there almost 2 years 12 to 18 hours a day SIX and seven days a week for S60 00 a month I asked for a ralse All I got was a laugh from the boss I gave h1m two weeks notlce and qult I must have been lucky because one week later I was employed at General Mllls rn W1ch1ta Falls startlng at S90 00 per month workmg forty hours per week Boy was I 1n Hlgh Cotton Wh11e workmg for General M1115 I met the prettlest l1ttle brown eyed 1935 she became Mrs Cleat Cockrell In 1938 when W Lee O Damel fThe H1l1b1l1y Flour Mani was elected governor of Texas he was in need of an offlce man to handle hrs flour accountlng and personal busmess I was transferred to Fort Worth by General M1115 to take over th1s asslgnment One year later the flour company closed and I moved to Austm I contlnued to work for Gov O Damel and worked nn the State Audltor s offlce Whrle l1v1ng ln Austm I attended the Unlverslty of Texas at n1ght takrng advanced accountlng and personnel management Durlng th1s t1me I recelved Greetmgs from Uncle Sam I was rnducted ln the army at Fort Sam Houston and was asslgned to the Elghth Servxce Command where I spent my tour of duty After my dlscharge from the army I returned to Fort Worth I went lnto partnershrp w1th a pr1nt1ng company I remamed w1th the company for seven teen years Durmg that tlme 119471 the stork VlS1ICd us and brought us a 11ne baby boy In 1963 I sold my mterest 1n the prmtlng company and ln January, 1964 I started my own busmess wlth one small prmtmg press My wrfe was book keeper I was the salesman and our son was dehvery boy and jamtor after school hours J i ' . . . 5 . , , . . . . . , . , - - 5 . l . , 7 9 ' 3 ' ' L6 ' ii . brunette girl I ever saw. CLEPHANE CROSS I was born to Joe J and Ehzabeth Cross 1n 1908 They came to Megargel rn 1905 I had four brothers and two slsters Joe and Lllhan are S1111 l1v1ng After attendlng school m Megargel and North Texas State and graduatlng wrth a B A Degree 1n 1936 and a Master s Degree 1n 1938 I started teachmg and coachlng m North Jr Hlgh School 1n the fall of 1937 untll 1942 From 1942 43 I was an lnstructor 1n the Arr Force School Chanute and Sheppard F1e1d Back to North Junlor 1943 Waco Hlgh School coach and teacher 1944 46 bulldlng buslness 1 year Back to coachmg ln Smlthvllle Texas 1 year then to Texas Clty 1-I1gh School In the Fall 1948 untll retlrement ln 1974 In 1941 I marrred Theresa Woodward We have two boys and one g1rl Joe Bobby and Mary Joe IS ln Azle as Counselor for Church Alllance and Unrted Way He IS marrred to Susan Cummmgs They are both Baylor Graduates and have one son Matt who IS a freshman at Baylor Bobby IS marrled to Sharon Varley and they have one son Robby who IS a sophomore at John Tarlton They IIVC ln Texas Clty Mary IS marrled to Davld Wrrght They have two glrls Sarah and Juhe and 11ve rn Tyler Theresa and I 11ve near Waco between Ross and Gholson on Rogers H111 Rd , Rt 5 Box 1097 Waco Telephone 1 817 829 1876 . . , . . . . , . - y , - 9 9 1 ' 9 1 ' 9 s 9 - , .
