Class History One bright September morning, twelve years ago, a group of eager young- sters entered the First Grade at Meeker School. In that group were Clyde Sap- pington, Shirley Detwiler, Evelyn Herr, Jane Seiter, Marylin Hecker, Betty Jo Clark, and Anita Coon. Their teacher for the first two grades of school was Miss Hazel Layman. Two new pupils transferring to Meeker from Pearl Street School, Marion, Ohio, increased our class enrollment: Roberta Sharp was transferred to the group in the third grade and Nancy Shults in the fourth grade. Mrs. Ruby Gompf was our third and fourth grade teacher. As time went on we found ourselves entering the fifth grade with Miss Mary Smith as our teacher. Our sixth grade was taught by Mrs. Elpha Eichhorn and during this year another pupil, Ruth Purtee, joined us. Then came a big change in our school program, our classes and our sched- ules. We were in Junior High! Mr. Richard Courtney was our seventh grade teacher and Mrs. Donna Freeman our adviser in the eighth. At last, after being properly initiated as members of the freshman class, we were in high school. Mrs. Jane White was our adviser. In our sophomore year, Mrs. Lois Preuninger became our class adviser and has worked with our class directing our activities throughout our junior and senior years. During our junior year our class enrollment grew steadily: Ronald Griffin transferred to Meeker from Roundhead, Diana Gettys and Jim Smith from Harding High School, Marion, Ohio, and Ernest Sparks from Pros- pect, Ohio. Along with our scholastic work, we found time for extra-curricular activities. Trying out our dramatic ability we participated in class plays, Hill- billy Weddin ' in our junior year, and our senior play, Good Night, Ladies. Some of our class, interested in sports, became members of the basketball and baseball teams. During our senior year two students, Paul Meadows transferring from Clari- don school and James Pfeiffer of Meeker, increased our class total to sixteen. Working together as a class we have prepared for one of the highlights of the year, our senior trip. As our high school learning days draw to a close with the approach of commencement activities, we feel confident and hopeful of the future and well prepared to assume our responsibilities in life. CLASS MOTTO What we are to be, we are now becoming CLASS COLORS Scarlet and White CLASS FLOWER Red Rose 9
