Senior Advice To Future Classes First of all, we advise you not to be afraid of work-if you leave it alone, there is little fear of it bothering you. Second: Get on the good side of your teachers, for by their pens your grades are written, and WE know that a 95 is just as easy to write as a 645. Third: Never buy any pen-cils, ink, or rulers, for it ls much more economi- cal to borrow them and forget about it. Fourth: Stay up as late as you please-if you go to bed early, it may ruin a perfectly good nap for you in class the next day. Fifth: Be kind and generous to your teachers. If they give you 95, give them a nice red apple: if they give you 85, give them a sour plum: and if ever they give you anything as low as 75, feed them green perslmmons. Sixth: If you want to live long and be happy among your schoolmates, act the part of another: that is, do not be yourself, or some fine, bright morning you will wake up in company with a family of squirrels. Seventh: Don't ever take your math books home, for if you can't copy your problems off the other fellow in 45 min- utes, you are not capable of carrying any high school course. -5 7..

NEVERMORE A class poem with apologies to Poe On an evening near Commencement While I pondered gladly gloating, O'er the long-wished-for diplomas That we soon should have in hand: As I dreamed thus, fondly smiling, 0'er Commencement scenes beguiling, Suddenly there came a tapping, 'Came a gentle little rapping, Quite distinctly on the door. From my easy-chair uprising I discovered-sight surprising, A sleek Raven, like you ve all seen Half a hundred times, and more: Not the least obeisance made he: Not a minute stopped or stayed he, But with mien of lord or lady, Perched upon a bust of P-oe That was standing near the door. Spake not, but he there sat blinking- Sat, and I kept up my thinking, Till, like one who's sorely troubled, I spoke out in accents sad: When shall we have such enjoyment, Find such desirable employment, Find so many friends and pleasures As in High School we have had? Then as Poe's had done before, Quoth the Raven, Nevermore. When, I asked with heavy sighing, Will the teachers be espying Such a class of demonstrators, Such fine athletes and debaters, Such good students, keen and clever, As the seniors now departing? From his perch beside the door Quoth the Raven, Nevermore. Then, to give my thoughts expression, I asked yet another question: When shall our footprints be erased, And our high records be effaced? When shall this smart class be forgot, And in oblivion's tomb be placed? Then quoth the Raven as before, Never, Never, Nevermoref' -59- A Picture One day as I was sleeping A picture cam-e to me, It was the funniest picture That you ever did see. Miss Brother came in dancing, And playing a cornet, Mr. Weddell came in smoking A great long pipe of jet, T'hen came Miss Hess a whistling A tune, I'm Loved No More, While Miss Ida washed the windows, And Goss, he swept the floorg Mr. Lewis taught us cooking Miss Georgia how to draw: Miss Roberta, she played hookey, But in each we found a flaw. Feeding The Animals The Seniors live on choicest fruits, The Sophs on pork and beans, The Juniors live on lengthy words, But the Freshman class on greens. It's the Seniors delight to bark and bite, And the Junior bunch to sing: But all the Freshies can find to do Is to stare at everything. THE DIFFERENCE The Junior stood on the railroad track: The train was coming fast. The Junior stepped off the railroad track And let the train go past. The Senior stood on the railroad track: The train was coming fast. The train got off the railroad track And let the Senior past.
