- Society - On October fifteenth, Louise Davis entertained at her home the members of the Freshman class. Everyone was in a hilarious mood and the evening seemed to go on wings, it was so filled with games, music, and dancing. Near the close of the evening light refreshments were served. Christmas Party Wednesday night, December twenty- second, 1926 the teachers of Carr Town- ship met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Weddell for their annual Christ- mas Party. Th-ose present were as fol- lows:-Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Weddell, Professor and Mrs. R. R. Goss, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. M, F. Davis and daughter Helen, Mr. Collin Lewis, Mr. Henry McHargue, and the Misses Gladys Hess, Helen Brother, Roberta Wright, Allegra Roller, Irene McClintock, Ida Sutherland, Hazel Beem Elizabeth Parker, Edna Beem, M16 Turney, and Mildred Davis. The Christmas idea was carried out throughout the entire evening. One in- teresting feature was the opening of the grab bags which contained the ex- change gifts of the teachers. Refresh- ments consisting of candies, pop corn balls, nuts and fruit punch were served in an attractive manner. During the latter part of the evening a beautiful gold watch and chain was presented to Mr. Davis by the teachers as a token of their appreciation of his interest in the schools and teachers while trustee. Mr. Davis responded with words fitting the occasion and then presented each of the ladies a box of chocolates and the gentlemen a box of cigars. Because of the good time, the teach- ers decided to organize into the Cair Township Teachers' Club and have a social meeting once each month during the remaining school term. E At eight o'clock, on the evening of January the twentieth, the Carr Town- ship Teachers' Club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Wright. The host- esses of the evening were: Misses Ro- berta Wright, Mary Louise Zollman, Hazel Beem, and Irene McClintock. Games, contests, and music furnished amusements for the guests. Refresh- ments consisting of cake and ice cream, furthering the color scheme of pink and white, were served. After which the guests departed, declaring the hostesses charming entertainers. Hostesses for the February Teachers' Tarty were: Misses Allegra Roller, Ed- na Beem, Mae Turney, Mildred Davis, and Elizabeth Parker. The party was held at the home of the latter. The dec- orations, games, and refreshments were in keeping with St. Valentine's .Day. On the night of February 12, 1927, Ruby Motsinger gave a Valentine Party for some of her friends from Senior. Junior, and Sophomore classes. Cars met in town at the hour of eight and drove out to Ruby's country home. The even- ing was joyfully spent with many games, dances, and songs. Light re- freshments were served, after which the guests departed at a late hour, eager for another party. On Wednesday evening, March the ninth, a banquet was given the basket ball teams of Jackson County by the Brownstown Commercial Club in the Auditorium of the Brownstown High School building. We have come to the conclusion, after so long a time, that our high school work is the first great step toward success. ship and loyalty, and to eliminate that feeling of rivalry which sometimes ex- ists. This was the first meeting of this kind ever held in this county and was declared by all present to be a decided success. As they entered the banquet hall they were given a small representation of a basket ball suspended by their school colors, as a token of the occasion. The Cortland players, winners of the sec- tional tourney, were the honored guests. They were given a hearty cheer and the hope that they would go to the State Tournament was expressed by all pres- ent, Roscoe Robertson acted as toast- master and toasts were given by the coaches and principals of the schools represented. A bountiful two course banquet consisting of chicken, potatoes, pickles, salad, baked beans, cake, brick ice cream, and lemonade, was served. Miss Ruth Massena entertained twelve of her friends at 7:30 Saturday evening, February 19th, with a nicely scheduled party including music, danc- ing, games and refreshments. The main event staged being the pillow fight be- tween Miss Ruby Motsinger and Mr. Lillard Hill, who finally was asked to pay for the damage done to his chair. Everyone departed at a late hour de- claring they had a wonderful time. St. Patrick's Party The Carr Township Teachers' Club was delightfully entertained with a St. Patrick's Party at the home of Mrs. Georgia Goss, Wednesday evening, March 16. Mrs. Goss was assisted by the Misses Sutherland, Hess and Brother. The home was artistically decorated in spring flowers and decorations sug- gestive of St. Patrick, After an evening of merriment in games, the guests were ushered into the dining room, where they were seated at a long table for refreshments. The table was beautifully decorated. A large cake on a high cake stand formed the center piece and a garland of maiden hair fern was banked around the base of the stand. A green carnation, for each of the twenty guests was placed in the center of the cake, tied with green rib- bon extending from each place card served as favors. Lighted green tapers in crystal holders formed effective light- ing in the dining room. A dainty two course luncheon was served. Miss Dorothy McPike entertained the Senior Class and other schoolmates with a St. Patrick's Party March 16, 1927. The evening was a complete success in every way as all enjoyed meeting the Saint, kissing the blarney stone, and the numerous contests. Refreshments, car- rying out the color scheme of the occa- sion, consisted of brick ice cream and cake. The remainder of the evening was spent in games and music and that which goes well with music. There were several sleepy pupils in school the next day, but no one regretted the good times they had had. ' The members of the basket ball team were served with a delightful oyster stew by Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Williams at the Palace Restaurant on March eigh- teenth, nineteen hundred twenty-seven. On the night of April first, Alberta Goss entertained several friends with an April Fool party, at her home, north uf town. A number of games including Bean Bag, ' Rag Doll, Punch and Grunt, and music and singing furn- ished entertainment for the gay crowd. The delicious lunch that Miss Alberta served, consisting of chicken sandwich- es, pickles, banana salad, angel food cake, and orangeade was the crowning touch. -51-
