Coats HWhy should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? It a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. Henry David Thoreau When Joseph Coats left us, l felt a great personal loss. He and I had done much together in the years here at Medina and our friendship grew with those years. Joe was a person l turned to when the going got rough as he had a knack of helping me work out my problems. In this particular position, I find that very few problems arise that can be solved by the thinking of one person. Joe and l would argue back and forth and bounce ideas around. While we didnt solve all the problems of the world, we did make in- roads toward making our high school a better place for one to work and for our students to receive a better education. Replacements in that type of working arrangement are hard to come by and the development takes many years. Joseph Coats carried out his responsibilities lOOWo and more. He is sorely missed in my daily life. David R. Parsons We knew him for only a few months, not long really, but long enough to know that he was the kind of man who wouldn't say, HWhat do you think about pollution, but, HWhat have you done about pollutionTt. Mr. Coats was con- stantly showing you viewpoints you had never thought of. Those of us who had him for a teacher and friend are grate- ful tor the privilege. He criticized our ideals and actions mak- ing us question them, and then encouraged us, agreed with us, and told us never to give up. The only regret we have is that we were never able to tell him how much he meant to all of us. We wish the rest of you could have had him for a teacher. He shared his keen understanding of life with all and never hesitated to tell us when he thought something was wrong. His words still live on in our memories a HThink, dont be led like sheep? l'l have a lot of faith in you kids, youtre the ones who are going to make itil' To Mr. Coats with love, Barb Sohnackel and Chris Lottes In Memoriam h D. Coats Central Administration 1. Mr. William..J,.eo SCHOOL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR 2. Mr. Thomas Schirmer COORDINATOR of CURRICULUM and INSTRUCTION Board of Education Sranding: Mr. Forrestial, Dr Cogger, Mr. Blackburn, Mr. Pask, Mr. Morien. Seated: Mr. Vosler, Mr. Messore, Mr. Ferri, Mrs. Cotriss, Mr. Acer. SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Dr. Robert V. Cogger To the Class of 1972: In searching for the most desirable paths for happiness now and in the future, you will find that your yearbook theme provides a challenge for each of you to Hstep to the music which he hears. Each person must learn to recognize the tone and tempo of the drumbeat best suited to himself. In other words, each person must learn to know himself, for in this manner one is able to deter- mine his goals in life and how he may best achieve them. To hear the drumbeat clearly may be difficult in much of our everyday living. In his quest for the meaning of his own life Tho- reau turned again and again to nature, for here he found peace of mind, beauty, quietness and inspiration. May each of you hear that music which will provide meaningful living for you and for your fellow man. Dre Robert v. Cogge, Superintendent of Schools Senior High School Administration ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Mr. Nunzio Maiorana PRINCIPAL Mr. David Parsons David Grayson once said that UCommandmeht number one of any truly civiii society is this: Let people be different. Ours is a truly civilized society in that it fords each individual the opportunity to be different and to be a success while do it. The important thing to remember is that we as individuals have an obligation to ciety as well as to ourselves. Hopefully as you go through life you will keep Graysonis words in mind and member that as long as you want others to let you be different, you must reciproc Graduates, may I offer you my congratulations and may your future hold un success, happiness, and good health.
