This year Medina’s Drama Club put on one of the most success- ful Variety Shows ever. It was appropriately called S.P.I.C.E. meaning Special Program Involving Creative Entertainment. 17 18 19 Medina Seniors Take Over Project Involvement This year ninety-six students participated in a program called Project Involvement. The program involved seniors who were as- signed to various city and county jobs. Every student had a counterpart who showed them the duties they were required to do. The project was kicked-off on November 9, 1 973. All of the stu- dents gathered at the Medina Congregational Church to hear eight speakers. The City Planning Director Rick Grice, who planned the project, began the pre-luncheon program. He said the program will hopefully create an awareness by the students of the demands of local government, and show the importance of voting. In addition he said, the program will hopefully develop a posi- tive attitude toward local government, and develop active citizens rather than passive ones. The speakers included State Representative William Batchelder III, District Assistant to Congressman Mosher, Dorothy Litman, Medina County Commissioner Charles Clark, Superintendent of Medina City Schools John Kaczenski, President of the School Board Ralph Waite, Principal Augie Rios and Mayor Fred Greenwood. All the speakers agreed that the program would be a success. The program got under way on Monday the 1 2th and was con- cluded on Wednesday the 14th. For these days the seniors learned about the jobs they were assigned, and where ever the student’s counterpart went, he went. All of the seniors received a bird ' s eye view of the way our local and county government works and what makes it tick. 20 Top: Penny Muha assists the dispatcher, Wally Carlson, at the Medina Police Station. But it didn’t start here. This year Pep Ciub, GAA and Key Club together decorated the uptown to let everyone know this was Homecoming Week. Thursday night our successful bonfire was the heat of the night. The bonfire also included float competition between the Juniors and Seniors. Both were successful in their attempt, but for the second year in a row the class of ‘74’ came out ahead, winning first place. Friday, our game had a touch of beauty as our lovely homecoming court of Vicki Gulling, Carleen Korte, Lynne Rudes and the 1 973 home- coming queen Marcia Gorfido, cheered the team to victory. Med- ina’s success continued on to Saturday night when our homecoming dance, sponsored by the Sophomore class, was one of the most successful Medina has had in years. The theme this year 1 950 — Let the good times roll. 22 Homecoming Homecoming 23 24 Homecoming j t j ’ f 4 t llM u E ' H ' ’■f ■ ' S J n Some of Medina ' s old queens joined our homecoming festivities this year. Somewhere in the chaotic and rapidly paced four years known as high school, the students of 1 974 developed a common bond and became the class of 1974. This common bond was friendship. Throughout our freshman year we were plagued by the problem of standing up in time for our “Freshman RAH!“, and by the baffling problem of what to wear, say and do at the first Homecoming Dance. The girls held the upperclass boys in an absolute awe, while the boys admired the older, more experienced girls. We are Seniors, looking back, laughing at the good times and contemplating at our mistakes. Now, we have walked out the doors of MHS for the last time. ■H 56 Seniors The Class of 1 974 Seniors 57 Robert Laurence Alspach Patricia Jean Anderson HSpjl - AfUtf ’■ Wi.«WpU| W HH i 11 ® - ■ : ;J ' : 1 : : 1 §k til jflfev Jeffrey Kirk Antal Carolyn Ann Arrowood Margaret Kendall Baird James Joseph Bednar William Arthur Barnett Thomas Warren Benner 58 Seniors Robert Frederick Bluhm Beverly Joye Boleratz Michael John Bonor Kathryn Dawn Bracey Jeffrey Lee Bramley Michel Elaine Brewer Kathleen Ann Botten Tom Edward Butcher Sheryl Lynn Chamberlain Cynthia Louise Chester Linda Sue Chidsey Wayne Charles Clark Seniors 59 Mark Louis Codding William Marshall Cody Mary Ellen Conrad Daniel Thomas Cunningham Mary Burtina Davis Harriette Cornelia Deis Carole Lynn Disbrow James Michael Donnelly David Lynn Collins Amy Jo Conners Carey Lee Cypher John Dague Mark Richard Depew Kathleen Judith Mary Dooley Brenda Janette Dial Danette Marie Doyle 60 Seniors Priscilla Ann Duplaga Susan Marie Dvorak Celia Verlettia Edwards Bryan Lee Eisenhart Susan Jane Ellsworth Sandra Mae Falconer Stevan Robert Farkas Diane Louise Favret lldiko Julianna Somogyi Fetzer Barbara Ann Fields Gregory Allen Fields Michael Jon Fiser Seniors 61 Bb mai7 Am Dm 7 L We ' ve On - ly Just Be - gun to live, White lace and 2. David S. Beckowitz, 22, of 4568 Nettleton Rd., Medina, was dead on arrival at Medina Community Hospital at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Medina post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said Beckowitz was eastbound on Rt. 18, apparent- ly traveling at a high rate of speed, when traffic ahead of him slowed down. BECKOWITZ apparently tried to stop his truck, but could not and turned off the right side of the road, entering a front yard at 1708 Medina Rd., where the truck over- turned, the Patrol said. Beckowitz was trapped inside the truck’s cab. The Granger Two. Rescue Squad pulled Beckowitz out of the wreckage and he was trasnported to the hospital. Beckowitz was returning the truck to White Motors in Akron. a final plan to local governments. Library Club 151 Student Council This years Student Council was an active and important organization in representing the student body. They set to accomplish three goals and were successful to a degree in most of them. The first was to get more students involved in school activities. Twice as many students attended the Homecoming dance as in previous years. Over 700 students came to the Circus Concert. Second, they tried to make the membership in Student Council more meaningful. And third, they tried to represent the students better. Meetings were open to all students, with some evening meetings scheduled to allow more people to attend. A newsletter was published and distributed carrying all the current Student Council News. They were involved with various activities this year including. Freshman orientation, Homecoming, Dollars for Scholars, student exchanges with neighboring and SWC schools, sponsored Circus Concert and helped draft Senate Bill 529, which concerned the length of the school day. They sponsored social activities for members including a hayride, dinner, and a year ending dinner meeting. Student Council ended a successful year by conducting student elections for class officers for the 1974-75 school year. 152 Student Council r. M Student Council Officers include: L. Apathy Club The members of Apathy Club have not shown enough interest to attend meetings or elect officers. An added difficulty was the lack of an advisor. Nevertheless, the club managed not to do or participate in the many activities in our community. Among the many things they did not do were: They didn’t go Christmas caroling, or visit the old folks; they did not partici- pate in an Easter egg hunt nor did they at- tend pep rallies. Members of the Apathy Club didn’t show up to have their pictures taken for the Medinian which really didn’t matter because they didn’t buy a copy anyway. For a money raising project, they sched- uled a bake sale, but nobody brought any- thing to sell. The major activity of the year was the decision to go to Chippewa Lake Park, but when the designated time arrived no one appeared at the meeting place (Reagan Park) which was of no con- sequence as the bus didn’t come anyhow. Who cares about apathy anyway? Apathy Club ! 79 gw Work Study The Work Study Club helps students to develop an awareness of the skills needed for successful work participa- tion. Many obstacles had to be over- come, but our greatest transition was the move from the old high school to the new M.H.S. We were fortunate to have an outstanding staff who worked well together as a team. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all these staff members for their many hours of hard work. I would also like to thank Con- temporary Photography Studio and John Urian, our Paragon Representative, for their co-operation. I would like to give spe- cial thanks to Mr. Cheuvront, who without his unlimited time, patience and true dedication this book would not have been possible. Thanks to everyone— Susan Swinehart, Editor 248 MEDINA COUNTY DISTRICT LIBRARY A00D12177t 77A7 For Reference Not to be taken from this room
