The curriculum in the science depart- ment is chosen to give the student a wide sampling of many scientific disciplines. In ninth grade, every student is required to take physical science, a basic survey course. In succeeding grades, he can elect to take biology, chemistry, and physics. Each of these courses gives basic information and includes experimental work in the laborato- ry. BSCS and Chem Study are also offered for the above-average science student. Right: Mr. Swinglish oversees an experiment being car- ried out in freshman science by Scott Harpster and George Downey. Below: We know that Mr. Graham is occasionally absent-minded, but why is he pointing to a blank screen? Maybe he sees something we don’t! 22

Language Department Mrs. Zimmerman, Mr. Baker, Miss Grund, Mr. Millor, Miss Kitska, and Mr. Evans. Absent when picture was taken: Mrs. Kellogg. In our time of ever-improving trans- portation and com- munication, it is be- coming in creasingly essential to have at least a working knowledge of a sec- ond language. Many students realize this and elect to study a language. At Medina the student has a choice of Latin, French, German, or Spanish. Latin is of- fered for two years, French and German for four each, and Spanish for five, in- cluding an advanced placement course. Mrs. Kellogg corrects sentences which her Latin students Mr. Millor’s Spanish class listens attentively (?) have written on the board. as he explains a sentence.
