Hold the Key to the Future Below: Marianne Cochran says, Oh, Sue, look at all the pretty colors!” in biology class. Above: Mark, you’ll never learn geometry if you don’t pay atten- tion when Mrs. Whitman is trying to help you! Below: Mike Groetz and Kurt Friday are finding out just what makes that creature work. Two departments providing courses that give the student useful, factual knowledge are the mathe- matics and science departments. In the math department, courses range from the strictly practical to the abstract. On the practical side, there are courses such as general math, which give the vocationally- oriented student a working mathe- matical knowledge. On the other end are courses such as calculus and slide rule, for the college-bound student. Much of science is based on mathematical properties. Therefore, some math courses are co-ordinated with science courses by grade. From ninth grade physical science through senior physics, with biolo- gy and chemistry between, the stu- dent gains a well-rounded scientific knowledge. 9
