countless opportunities to think and perform creatively Music and art are tal- ents no well-rounded person can afford not to refine. Medina ' s fine arts department excels in en- couraging interests in all forms of beauty, from a perfect note to an oil portrait. The marching band provides entertain- ment at football games after long, hard days of practice. The concert and pep bands have also added to our enjoyment and prestige. This year the art class- es have kept not only the showcases full of their work, but also the halls and lobby. Besides this active creating, there are courses which seek to develop an ap- preciation for the fine arts through historical background. 13

Vocational courses build basic skills and business aptitudes The Home Economics department is one that is often overlooked when it comes to praise. In this department, the girls are taught all of the fine arts of homemaking, and their interest in building good and stable homes is encouraged. Home Economics has been added this year to the curriculum as a vocational course, based on the same standards as DE and DCT. Business education courses afford, not only un- limited opportunity for students planning to pursue a career in business, but also offer personal-use sub- jects, such as personal typing and notehand which aid in improving study habits. Boys have found industrial arts and mechanical drawing not only interesting but fun. In the machine shop, they are able to tinker with engines and learn valuable things about machines. 14
