Medina offers its students an opportunity to obtain a taste of each of the principal sciences: bi- ology, physical science, chemis- try, and physics. Through biology, sophomores evolve a theory of the origin, development, struc- ture, and functions of plants and animals; through chemistry as juniors, an understanding of the composition of substances; and, through physics as seniors, a knowledge of the phenomen a of matter and energy. It is through this study and laboratory work which changes facts in print to reality that the students are able to meet a scientific future confi- dently. Math courses enable the stu- dents to understand some of the sciences more fully. There is a variety of math offered here, from algebra I and geometry to trigonometry and calculus. This year, a computer has been added to the equipment of the math de- partment, and has fascinated many students. Some students have even written programs for it. I I

Medina ' s fine arts department excels in en- couraging interests in all forms of beauty, from a perfect note to an oil portrait. The marching band provides entertain- ment at football games after long, hard days of practice. The concert and pep bands have also added to our enjoyment and prestige. This year the art class- es have kept not only the showcases full of their work, but also the halls and lobby. Besides this active creating, there are courses which seek to develop an ap- preciation for the fine arts through historical background. 13
