Vocational Courses Prepare Business Machines students — Dave Williams and John Nixon remember to honor our local secretaries Marjorie Poetsch and Jean Thornburg with corsages on during National Secretaries Week. Kathy Beers takes advantage of a quiet moment in the shorthand lab to get in some extra pages of practice by listening to a tape-recorded lesson that comes to her by way of a wireless student unit. Ed Currier figures this extra work during business machines class should earn him a few polished points toward a grade. Here he is folding, counting and sorting programs that were printed in the department for a concert. Diane Myers checks her letter to see if it will pass the mailability test before she submits it to the instructor during shorthand transcription class. 24

Physical Education and Driver Education Provide Different Pace During Student ' s Day Arnold Petty, Jackie Miley, Chi Chi Johnson, and Julius Klopp tee up. Physical education is required of all students each year. This year the girls participated in volleyball, archery, modern dancing, gymnastics, soccer and golf. Boys par- ticipated in wrestling, softball, and archery. Driver education was delayed this past year as the school received a new car which had to be outfitted with a second brake. It seemed doubtful to many of the students that they would ever become drivers; how- ever, under the careful guidance of Mr. Platz, they didn ' t manage to dent any fenders. Okay, pupils, instructs Mr. Platz. Take your places and roll • III em! Mr. Weygandt ' s boys physical education class snaps to attention. 23

■ ' Tv Students For Employment After Graduation Rick Blevins zeroes in with a drill press as he completes a project during metals class. Lee Roby and Larry Thompson work the bugs out of a printing job before they start the final product. Although many of our students enter college after graduation, some of them do not remain for very long. Lucky are those who have enrolled in some vocational training for they are able to secure jobs to support themselves. Business courses include typewriting, two years of shorthand, office practice, business machines, bookkeeping, record keep- ing, and business comm unications. Courses in mechanical drawing, electricity, wood shop, weld- ing, metals, and graphic arts are offered to students not in- terested in the business field. All classes may enroll in home economics. Next year the course will be upgraded by being converted to vocational home eco- nomics. Do too many cooks spoil the dessert? Not true, say Pam Henniger, Pam Williams, and Michelle Mutter as they team up to prepare a delicious dish during home economics class. 25
