Latin Provide Excellent Reinforcement For Study In English Classes Sandy Harrington and Carla McComas aren’t really sure they will make good senoritas because they haven ' t taken a particular positive attitude toward turrones that was served in Dr. Piquer ' s Spanish class. Tom Clevidence dreams of far distant places such as Paris as he views the travel posters in the dean ' s office. Since English is considered as the foundation for good communications, course content in this department in- cluded much writing, the reading of poetry and prose, from Shakespeare to the modern novel. Students may elect speech to fulfill the English requirement. Speech students present the daily student bulletin. Seniors may elect business communications as their four year of English. Foreign languages offered at Medina Senior High this year include French, German, Spanish, and Latin. French and German are offered for three years; Latin, for two years; Spanish for four years with an Advanced Placement course making five years for outstanding students. In May, students may take the AP test for college credit hours. The test covers not only the language techniques but also the history of Spain. Language classes have continued the International Club, which was founded last year. Meetings are held monthly. Installation of a new language lab supplements other teaching aids in this department. Jean Hutchinson and Bernie McDermott just last through the 9th period by enjoying the publication, Bunte, during Miss Muren ' s German class. 19

Carolyn Nichols and Pam Simones fiddle during orchestra practice — only trouble is one is doing Fiddle Faddle, while the other is doing The Hot Canary. Fine Arts Occupy Prominent Place In Local Curriculum Music to suit your fancy could be the theme of the music department. Students may enroll in marching and concert band, mixed choir, girls ' glee, or orches- tra. Marching band starts practice before school be- gins in the fall. Double periods daily help this out- standing unit to perfect its prize-winning perform- ances. A music theory course aids students to obtain a major in music at MHS. After school, pop music may be heard from the music wing as members of the Stardusters, the local dance band, polish their big band sounds. Probably the most outstanding production of the art department this year was the second annual product of Living Pictures. Students painted backdrops of famous artists ' works and then used live models for their presentations. Course content varies from the usual painting to rug hooking, sculpting, enameling, and other crafts. An art history class is also offered to enrich the curriculum in this department. Janet Clark hopes she has caught the eye of her band di- rectors with her little gimmick of practicing early in order to get that grade raised. 21
